Advice: Merc C200

I am going to buy a c200 this weekend and just wondering what sort of things I should be looking for! Never own a Merc!1 Does it have a timing belt or chain? What sort of mileage does the chain/belt needs to be changed?

Many thanks

Make sue its cold when you get there check the engine temp gauge, then listen for a rattle at start up, this may give you a clue about the timing chain.:D
Rust. . . on the wheel arches, damp carpets. Check electrics, all lights illuminate on the dash when you turn the ignition on. some people take the bulbs out to hide sensor faults.
Try the sun roof and windows.
Service history. . . if any!
I'm sure there will be more people adding to list shortly

I went to look for 1 c200 on T plate, had rust on all wheel arches, under the doors and the temp gauge was nearly 80% (above half way). The guy told me it is normal on Mercs!!

Yep, it is normal for the temp to be that high on a W202.

normal temp for most petrol cars is around 80-90. most of the w202 "look out for's" have been covered here, also keep an eye out for the cluster, they tend to be a bit faulty on some 202's (my old one had that fault), and check the car rides straight at reasonably high speeds, wishbone bushes are another achilies heel to the 202. Rust on the bootlock too.

Air con - condensors (in front of radiator) rot behind the fan hubs (not all have electric fans though).

Also check car comes with two keys (£150 a pop otherwise) and check the locks with the key blade (you never use it normally and the locks seize as a result - lots of people find this out then the battery goes and they can't get into the boot).
