Hi there,
We recently bought a 2007 C200K which has an Audio 20 fitted but with the full blown steering controls for a command unit.
However, we note that a command head unit is expensive and to fit it costs even more. Do we even need the dash coding to use it?
So, I'm considering options. I don't really like using the aux input because it means having to use an external player and it doesn't mute when my GPS wants to issue instructions. Also, the CD player on our HU is broken so we can't install the firmware upgrade to get the audio boost on the aux input.
I've therefore considered a single DIN or double DIN HU to replace the factory fitted system and would need to try and find one that works with the fitted controls, has GPS, phone hands free etc. However, using this means looking down at the screen, away from the road. I also expect the fascia adapter will not look good.
Here's an idea, it is possible to remove the screen that is under the pop-up panel on the top of the dash and fit a single DIN head unit in there with a slide out screen? Is there enough depth there to do this?
Can after market HUs still use the steering controls and the build in hands free system?
many thanks for any advice
Tony
