aftermarket air filter,, question,?

pipercross filters

Having just stumbled on this thread I am surprise no ones mentioned the foam PIPERCROSS FILTERS. http://www.pipercross.net/ They came out as a rival to K and N many years ago. If you look on the downloads section theres a exel file with an applications list. :) The OEM filters seem to be supplied with aerosol spray of fluid so I imagine they are dry to start with?? I have no experience of using these myself so cant comment on their effectiveness. They quote a 30% increase in air flow??

Grober, still the same, the aerosol is the oil, its the oil that catches the particals in the air, the dirtier the oil gets the better the filtration.

you wouldnt put one in dry as it wouldnt filter properly without the oil.

:)

if your cars an auto it will just sound silly leave those sort of toys for the wee hot hatch boys::))

The manufacturer didn't spend a load of money and time in research developing an air filter which wasn't up to the job.

Save yourself a load of money in snakeoil purchases and either buy OEM, or get the car chipped.

Or better still, sell the car and get one with a more powerful engine!

tend to disagree, majority of the times, replacement airfilters do help improve the breathability of the car, the only problem is on cars with MAS`s.

standard airfilters are made to be cheap and to get the best for what you pay for! not necessarily the best for performance. :)

Everything on my car seems to be held down with Torque screws so I needed new tools!

MAS killing filters

a few friends in the US who also own C43s have tried different filters and have found the standard Merc filter the best. Seems that even standard OEM can be better than aftermarket. I'm having my MAS replaced as I post but will be keeping the original filter unit.

You should have asked Greg.
I have a full set:D

air filters

WW is correct.
The O.E.M. filters do the best job (engineering has to be balanced between
air flow and cleanliness, and the "Gnomes of Sindelfingen" will always err on the
side of cleanliness AND durability)
Older W124 air filters can be lightly blown off with compressed air [in reverse flow] (15 P.S.I.) which will clean them for re-use PER MBNA factory service
manuals/c.d.s.
Any filter which introduces oil(s) upstream of a Mass Airflow Sensor (MAP)
will kill the MAF.
K+N type filters require the lubricant be introduced into the filter media to
provide the necessary filtration.Without the lubricant a K+N type filter
provides the kind of filtration (DRY) that you could achieve with .5 mm
mesh.[in other words none]
