Hello,
I have been looking at chrome door handle covers for my W 205 C220d which has the AMG line trim. As always it's difficult to form a view on the quality
of those advertised at £40-£50 per set online. So, my question is, have any of you fitted these and what's your opinion of them. Do they look anything like
the OE versions
Best wishes

I fitted aftermarket chromed door handle covers to a W163 a few years ago. They weren't terribly good quality and didn't look all that good. They're always going to be bigger than OE, for a start.

I think you have confirmed my doubts about these.................Thanks

Step away from after market chrome!

Each to their own, however aftermarket chrome is a very very niche thing which appeals to a relatively small minority.

It depends what and where it is. If a car is a bit too plain and unadorned-looking, a little touch of chrome can improve it. The black W164 was a bit like that, and I fitted six little chrome strake covers to the grilles at the rear corners of the bonnet; my black R171 had chromed strakes as standard, and they set that car off well. The aftermarket ones on the W164 also fitted well, looked original, and set the car off well. (The set also came with little chrome covers for the screenwasher jets. I fitted one, took one look, removed it, and threw both in the bin; obvious aftermarket tat. The difference was, I think, that the strake covers looked like OE fitment. It's very very easy to overdo it, and then it's a bit naff at best...

The new W164 doesn't need them; it has the usual chrome trim strips along the centre of the door panels, but chrome trim strips immediately beneath the door windows where the black car had painted black. I had thought to fit the strake covers to it as well, but it doesn't need them; even a touch more chrome would be overkill, I think.

imho the oem chrome door handle protectors on the C Class are subtle and add to the look of the car with darker colours. Not immediately obvious, but a nice addition. I bought oem, which I think makes a differenceIMG_9030.jpeg

Chrome wrap, would not be expensive & easily removed if you don't like it
