Hi all, I'm trying to fix my heater blower on my '96 w124 E280 auto estate. I reckon I have an aftermarket a/c install (no record in Log book, sharp edges on cutout for the central buttons) and the heater fan will blow its fuse if turned past '2'. Before that it would make a chirpy bearing noise when on.

It sounds like I'll have to remove the dash to get at the fan, which looks pretty scary, and I'm guessing getting a local indie to do it will cost more than I paid for the car.

Has anyone any great magical tips that could help me? - I'm thinking maybe if I could get some lube in there it may free up the cages/loosen the bearings. Is this possible? what is the minimum amount of dash removal that I can do to get at the fan? Or am I just scuppered?

Thanks for any input

hi
got exactly the same set up on my my '93 300TD - aftermarket a/c. Mine is Diavia and I assume it was a dealer fit. I was thinking of completely removing the system rather than trying to fix it - till I read this -

although admittedly the guy says he got it down to about an hour after his fourth time...

If I do ever decide to try I think I'd try and fix the a/c after all that... I have currently just removed harness - looked like the nasty Italian 'chocolate block' connectors had started to melt! - and 'made safe' all the connections I could see....hope the stuff I can't see isn't as bad lol...

cheers!

I've fixed a squeaky heater blower in the past by spraying wd40 in the heater inlet with the fan on lowest setting.

Nt recommending it of course, but it worked for me :)

reader air have quoted £105 +vat for a new fan blower - does anyone have any experience of swapping the diavia units? Apparently the heater box is a bit tricky to get out?
