dear All

I have a 2001 E320cdi Avantgarde with a factory fitted Audio 10 cd player.

I have tried making my own home cd compilations but they just will not play in the car - tried burning the cd at lowest possible speed but to no avail - is this a lost cause ?
thanks

I have absolutely no problem playing computer-burned music on my Audio 10 - use Nero/Windows Media Player 11. In actual fact, I rarely play any original CD's in the car just in case it gets broken into and they are always first to go!!

Agreed. Mine are playable also.
But the cd changer (a used one out of a saloon and fits the other way around to the original in my estate) is prone to skipping when travelling over moderately bumpy surfaces:mad:

The audio 10 of that vintage is pretty poor , i had a brand new one in 2002 and even that had trouble playing CDR's at that time of its life.

Invest in a new unit :) will be very worthwhile.

Me too - no problems. Burn with Windows media player.
The key word there is 'burn'.
For those with MP3 compatible units, you can just drag and drop the (MP3) files.

the key word with writing to any CD is 'burn'

It matters not whether you are writing audio or data files the only way it gets onto a CD is by being 'burned' onto it :)

Never had any problems with my CD changer playing burned discs used to use Nero to copy CD's

The audio 10 single din is different to the one in the W203 which is molded to fit the dash opening and is better.

An obvious question - but do these discs that you have created play successfully on other CD players you have around the home? Your explanation above implies that they do, but it doesn't go quite so far as to say that.

thanks everyone

thanks - i do burn my music as music files - I'm using iTunes on a mac - do you think that's where the problem lies ?

My old Audio 10 in my CLK ( 2001 ) didn't use to play burned CD's , but my new comand unit does.

Think it's just the vinatge of Audio 10 you have ....

In my old old CLK ( 1998 ) the CD changer in the boot used to play burned CD's no problem , maybe they are made by different manufacturers and that affects it ?

I use iTunes or Toast 10 on my Macs to burn audio CDs , they play fine on my two Sony CDX-91s but not on my CDX51 ( I know that's because the 51 does not support CD-R discs , and nothing to do with the way I burn them ) .
