Air bag casing cracked - safe?

I have a W211 E class and I recently noticed that the housing for the steering wheel air bag is cracked, next to where the horn gets depressed. The hairline crack is about 3/4 inch and follows the contour of the plastic cover. The break goes all the way through as you can push the plastic on either side and its well and truly split.

MB don't seem to want to replace under warranty saying its wear and tear. Cost is over £340 as apparently whole new airbag unit required. I am wondering whether to just live with it.

Question is, is it safe?

Any thoughts?

erm , its funny how none of the other mercedes ive had or heard of have done this ..

wear and tear my bum .. TBH .. try another dealer .. say you don't feel safe driving the car when wear and tear has occured on an explosive device that sits about 1m from your head

Agree with Fuzzer on this, needs sorting under WARRANTY.
