Air Compressors

[NDFR]

In this post Brexit Britain I find myself in need of an air compressor for inflating tyres at home.

I don't mind paying a premium if need be to buy British but I do want something of good quality.

Are there any British manufacturers I could take a look at?

JCB do a good home DIY one. Get a decent sized tank (35 litres or above) they get breathless fairly quickly.

don't buy an oiless compressor , get a belt driven one as they tend to last. You'll need a decent size tank to drive air tools. I would not consider anything less than 80 liter tank.

Look around.. have a look at machine auctions, you can pick up a bargain in the spec as above for as little as a quid, seriously.. it depends on your luck on the day... the reason I said the above is that I have friends that do just this for fitting out other garages etc.. I once fitted out a brand new Fiat Garage in Glasgow with all new ramps and with in 6 months it had gone and all equipment put to auction... I've just fitted out a mates garage with secondhand tecalamit ramps 5for £300 notes all near new, very little use and fully certed. His insurance guy came in just before Christmas and condemned all his ramps, so we went to auction and bid on them..

Years ago I bought a Compair from snap-on prior to it being badged up as snap-on I later bought a twin motored one with a giant tank this time in was labelled as snap-on but the instructions/manual were Compair, you could check Compair if the still do small compressors ( I kind of doubt it as the seem to be more associated with large industrial)

Do you just want to inflate tyres (portable tyre compressor) or something to run any additional tools ie workshop type compressor?

If it's just to inflate tyres then the Ring ones below from Screwfix are very good...

Clarke (Machine Mart) Blue Line of air compressors is British made.

If you don't mind Italian, Costco sell black SIP model every now and again.

I use an Italian made compressor which is sold by Wilkinson Star - a British brand - branded as American Snap On.

I used to have a 150L Wolf (Chinese) but it packed up rather quickly. And that's not with everyday use. I bought the above shortly after. Not had an issue yet.

Thing is with compressors - tank, pump and motor will all come from elsewhere (different countries). Country of Origin will be where it's all assembled together...
