Hi All, I have just brought the above van it has air con but I am not convinced it is working properly when I turn the air con on it blows cold but only seems to be as cold as out side, I have had a look but cannot tell if the compressor is kicking in when I turn the air con on/off, I have also noticed that the 2 off fans in front of the radiator do not come on either.
Does anyone have any advice?

You will probably find that it won't kick in because of low pressure on the refrigerant circuit meaning it won't run. Wait till it's warmer to use your air con!

Thanks Conquistador, although I would like to know if it is definitely working so that I can take it back to the garage I brought it from to have it sorted out just thought there might be an easy way of checking.

I might just take it back anyway to be checked.

Hi you could get them to replace the gas and also put a dye in to see if there are any leaks, that way you would know if there are any leaks and that there is the correct amount of gas. As said earlier if gas is low due to leak then it won't kick in. It was only £40 to get mine regassed so maybe garage will do it free as it doesn't work.

As said, low or no gas.
The condenser is the problem as they get damaged easy, thats the thin rad at the front behind the two fans, that will need changing.

Park it somewhere warm in the sun or something and try. Failing that, Kwik Fit offer an air conditioning recharge service. The machine produces a report and tells you how much refrigerant the system had lost, and replaces it with a dyed refrigerant and appropriate quantity of oil mixed in. Before it replaces the mixture it performs a leak test by pressurising the system (similar to a tightness test on domestic gas supplies) and if it detects a pressure drop it means it's leaking. Hope this helps

If the outside air temperature is too low, the compressor won't kick in. Set the temperature to its lowest setting when the outside air is above about 5-6 degrees Centigrade; you should get cooled air then. If not, there's a problem, and if there is, it's very likely to be low or no refrigerant due to a leak in the condenser, as others have suggested..

Many thanks for all your comments very much appreciated.

If the engine rpm doesnt change at all when engaging the AC then as stated above sounds like the gas has escaped. Another test is when the windows have condensation engaging the window setting on the heater should demist it very quickly even when the engine is cold as the AC dehumidifies as well.

Thanks Ivan the engine rpm dosent change when switching the ac on it also dosent demist very quickly either, I will take the van back to have it looked at next week.
