My air con had stopped working about a month ago, but because of the weather just past.. (Remember the days of great british summer:rolleyes: ..) i thought i would hold back on repairing it.

Meantime the ventilation fan started playing up, working when and if it felt like it....then stopped period a week a go. So action had to be taken....

Took her to the doctor's and he said that "as it was an after market air con installation (Requested when i bought her from MB)...it would have to be done by an Diavia specialist"...... as the blower motor would have to be accesed from the dashboard side.....

Ok so i then found a specailist and he first tested the AC system and found no leaks but it had run out of gas...:) 65 notes + vat.

Then he hit me with a slammer.. He confrmed that the blower needed changing (after tests) but as the dash MUST to be removed it would take one & half - two days (due to solid German Eng)......:( and the bill would be around 900 notes inc VAT:eek:  ............

150 for the parts and the rest will be labour charges depending on time taken.......Dame:mad::(

So i am "feeelin our pain"........ mate!!!

The things we do for love......

Somewhere on here , someone once posted a link to ' How to take your w124 dash apart ' ....

The photos were frightening , but if you were prepared to do it yourself, you could just get him over to fit the new motor ....

Depends how brave you're feeling ... ;)

EDIT :- Here we go ...

Frighten yourself with this !

before you start ripping the car apart replacing the blower check the fuse box, this is a far more common failure than the blower. The fuse for the fan has a nasty habit of burning out the contact on the boytom of the fuse box which isn't obvious until you start poking around - pull the fuse out and pay very close attention to the bottom contact in the box. Push it with a screwdriver (ignition off obviously) and see if it drops down or breaks off - if so, remove the fuse box and either replace or repair it.

This will cost pennies compared to replacing the blower so it's obviously worth checking first

The fan is in the engine compartment under the jump wiper as normal

Most of the retrofit aircon cars are Diavias. They are almost indistinguishable from the factory system

If the dash assembly is so tight and so packed (and it is) then where does this mythical fan go?? I think you'll find it in the usual place and the brushes will be worn out

Funny you should say that, it would have been my first guess too. Andy's comment about the fuse contact is a great tip though.

   ....... Well all i can say is "Whooooooowwwwww" That is major league stuff...... I am brave with most things but not that brave.....

The thing is it does look possible in a methodical kind of way. but i know that a third of the way through it, the thought will hit me (Why did you start this:devil:  .....) and then i will loose or break a vital component and the plot would be lost...

And even if after much toil and trouble i did complete all stages.... i would have to start again, but in reverse:confused:..... So i think i will leave that one alone.

Mind you looking at the procedure i can now understand the time that was quoted to do the job......

Thanks a lot for that anyways....;)

I will try Andy K's pointer on Satuarday....

Only thing is where is the fuse box:eek: .... never had to go there before;)..... If that is the cause of the problem then that would be fantastic.....

Thks again:rock:

If it's the same as the coupe, open the bonnet and it's in the left hand corner under the windscreen ...
