Any one noticed the effect Air Con has on the Economy on a W211 53/2004 E500 Avantgarde?

I cant see you noticing any effect air con on or off.

Yep, I agree totally with icedillon. Having undertaken exactly the same run/traffic and weather (ambient temperature) conditions twice in my recently acquired E320 CDI, I showed a saving of 3.5mpg on the second run with A/C off...........................37.6mpg A/C on, compared to 41.2mpg A/C off ;).

Similar %age results over a much longer period with my previous W203 C320 (petrol).

My own feeling is try not to use it during the winter months unless you have to (e.g. demisting), but whatever you do turn it on once or twice a week for an hour or so to ensure all of the A/C components get a reasonable dusting off.

MB will state differently I believe....the consensus is to leave the controls on auto, and with A/C on continually (hence the ubiquitous A/C indicator lamp illuminated when the A/C is off ...:dk:).

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Alex

What you two are forgetting is its a 5 litre v8 petrol:) ie the bigger the engine the less noticable the difference.

So the difference is unlikely to be much more than 1 mpg, i run with mine on all the time and it does exactly same mpg as with it off.

If you have to worry about 1mpg you have bought the wrong car!
