air con

It would be possible to retro fit however you are looking at huge costs. My advice would be to a) not to bother or b) sell your car and buy one with a/c.

friend of mine has a garage.. and would fit for me.. just want to make sure its possible before i buy the parts.. where would be the best place to source the parts?

Rather than sourcing parts I would consider an aftermarket kit from someone like Webasto (not sure if they actually do aircon). It will contain all the bits you need, is designed for use in a car without aircon and will come with instructions.

Your other option is to pick up a wrecked car (rear-end damage preferable!) with aircon to harvest parts from. Might work out as the cheapest option if you can sell any of the remaining parts afterwards.

Does your friend relaise how much work is involved?.

More to the point i cant believe you can buy a 2006 mb withour air con.

Yes its quite shocking!! I would buy an air con kit and a new switch pack so that the controls for it are all factory MB. That way it appears factory fit without the massive expense and you would also have some warranty of some kind on the kit versus using used parts from a wrecked car. Most aftermarket air con people use factory switches etc anyway so it would be easy to link it up to proper MB switch pack.....

thanks guys.. much appreiciated.. can ye point me in the direction of some after market kits?

Have a look at this link. It's a few years old now so the prices may have changed. It too goes down the 'donor car' route if possible.

Are you in this country? I cant believe a 2006 SLK doesnt have A/C.
Can you post a picture of your dash?

Retrofitting it is simply never going to be worth while.

Does the newer stuff still have the ec button same as the older cars like mine?

A 2006 SLK 200 should have a/c:dk:. Sure the op does not mean the upgrade/luxury module with the temp readouts?

Portzy.

its an irish car.. got most of the parts sourced from a 2006 slk 55.. will there be an ECU issue? just need a wiring loom now

Ever thought of putting your bits in the '55 ? :bannana:
