Quick question...

I want to regas the shogun's aircon before the desert rally.

Is QuikFit still considered the goto place?

M.

As long as you have R134 and not R12

It should have a label on the system somewhere that tells you - either that or contact a Mitsubishi dealer?

Given I couldn't find the badge I went to QuickFit today... it's R12...

so what do I do now?

Depends if you suspect that there is a problem. Most of the time jap arcon systems are bulletproof.

If you suspect that there is a problem or leak, they are not the place to go as they cannot detect the source of leaks and dont inject a dye to find the problem either.

You need to find a good local air conditioning specialist.

There are ways of converting the original system to run on an alternative gas, but I suspect you may have to carry out a repair or two before this (ie, find out where the leak is and correct it).

I can think of one decent place that I used a few years back now in Bucks that did a great job for this sort of stuff, but I suspect there will be some other places nearby to you.

If cost is an issue if might be worth leaving it!

Conversion to R134 or other gas : Nono - it needs to chill for 3 weeks, then I won't have the car anymore... so big expenses are out...

I don't think there's a leak - it's just never been regassed in the car's 17 years of life (I checked the paperwork /history)... It still cools, just not properly... and given that we're expecting 30-40C in the shade...well, you get my jist :)

I saw a kit on ebay that advertises itself as being an equivalent to R12 gas... might try topping it up myself and see what happens...

At the worst I'll use the Clarkson a/c method...
