They are basically isopropyl alchohol, which in my experience has a limited effect.

Sir, don't be so dismal.
2000 VW GTi 108T MAF cleaned with electrical contact cleaner and baby's ear cleaning things. Gently, gently. 18 months later, still working well.
Worth a try for less than €10.
