Air-Matic Question

Hi Guys,

I've got an E500 and the air-matic suspension isn't quite as good as I thought that it would be. The ride can sometimes be 'jarring' even in the comfort mode. I'm suspecting that it could be something to do with the tyres, I'm on Dunlop SP9000, which I 'assume' might have quite hard sidewalls which the air-matic is having problems with.

1. Are SP9000s the OEM tyre?

2. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it just me being fussy??

Cheers

James

I,ve got Airmatic with 18" Wheels & continental tyres and find that the comforft setting is bit wishy washy, Certainly not hard or jarring in any way, sport 2 setting is fairly hard but great for high speed roundabouts, again its not lumpy at all.

Some W211s came with Dunlop DP9000 tyres as OEM but I don't know if that includes any E500s.

If a W211 was ordered with low profile tyres then the buyer also had to opt either for sports suspension or Airmatic. I mention that because it really means that the Airmatic should not have problems with any tyres. My E320CDI is on 225/55-16 Continentals and I've not experienced any of the problems you refer to.

I have been on AirMatic for 18 months now, and it very nice. But, recently I have been thinking: it really isn't so good as all that; bit sharp, not very cushiony at all.

And then I had a loan car on steel springs for a week ("comfort suspension"). Couldn't believe how sharp steel springs are on really poor road surfaces.

As non-steel suspension systems go, it isn't as wafty as a Bentley or a Citroen, but it depends on your expectations, I suppose. Certainly my E rides as well as the previous model S demonstrator I tried, though I would like Comfort to be more wafty than it is.

I'm going to move to Goodyear Eagles and see if that helps, thanks for your input fellas.
