I'm looking for a clk for my mum and found one I liked but in the advert it said "The only point to note is the stepping motor in the dashboard (Air Recirculation Motor) ticks on start up. This only lasts for about 10 seconds, This does not effect either the heating or air-conditioning. This is a regular issues with Mercedes, most owners simply disconnect the motor "

Is this likely to be a problem or is it like he says pretty normal? Thanks!

Certainly not 'normal' but it is fairly common

Likely to mean you can't switch between normal and recirc modes, which could limit the efficiency of the a/c system. Just hope it's not stuck in recirc....

Great, definitely not a deal breaker then. I doubt my mum would even use the air con!!

Not using the A/C would probably be a mistake. I leave my A/C switched ON all the time, makes sure the gas and the lube oil mixed in with the gas is circulated, keeps seals in good condition, lubs the compressor and keeps the system in good order. NOT running the system is one of the prime causes of gas loss and system malfunction. An annual A/C service is £60-£70, less than the cost of a tank of fuel.

AND even in winter having the A/C running improves the feel of the climate in the car. My advice tell Mom to leave the A/C ON all the time and just adjust the temp to comfort level.
