My air vents are hissing. It sounds as if there is an air leak. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to get very cold either even on the coldest setting.
Any ideas what it could be.

This is not solved tapatalk will not allow me to post a new topic without putting it there

Snake in the car?

Sorry - was just posting to let you know you'd got your thread marked as 'solved', not sure if you can change it? :)

Will

The air con has been re gassed about 2 weeks ago. Kwick fit said there was no leaks.

Sounds silly but when I hear a hissing out of the vents; usually the kids have been messing around with the louvres and turned one or mor off...

It doesn't matter what I do as in opening vents or closing vents, the noise is still there, aany thing else I can check, this noise is doing my head in

still sounds like aircon to me. The fact that Kwikfit say it's not leaking doesn't mean a lot: the machine at the local garage reckons there are no leaks in the system on my LR discovery, but nevertheless, the refrigerant is going somewhere as it only worked for about a week or 2 after re-gassing. The machine does (I think) a vacuum test at relatively low differential pressure.

are you sure its not the headlight switch that has a leak they can give trouble

but you would only hear the hissing when you turned on the lights

take it back to kwick fit they have to stand over their work

my lights are on the auto switch so I guess that would be ON all the time, ill check that later, if I find out its the headlights how do i fix that? if not back to kwick fit

turn off headlights and see if it goes away

if its that a new switch or maybe a air connector to the back of said switch

If the air con isn't getting really cold , and you have a hissing noise , you probably have a refrigerant leak.

I had the same with my CLK last year.

You will probably find your condensor has a hole in it ( they rot through , because they accumulate dirt between them and the rad ).

Its new condensor time probably.

As Howard has said.

The hissing is from low ac gas. re-gassing will only mask the problem and not fix it. You need to find the leak first. 9/10 it will be from the condensor. Knowingly allowing the gas into the atmosphere is also illegal.

I could understand it being the Air con, but it still makes the same noise with aircon turned off

I'm pretty sure its not the air con. But I have booked in Monday to have it checked again. The noise is there with the aircon off.

Anything else I can check its doing my head in.

Does the noise change when you hit recirc ?
