I recently responded to the letter sent to all MB owners regarding the replacement of airbags as a safety concern.

I have owned from new a W204 220 CDI Sport.

The steering wheel is a 3-spoke type (spokes at 9 o’clock, 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock) and 12 buttons.

From new, I have always been able to sound the horn by depressing any of the spokes of the steering wheel, or depressing the centre of the steering wheel.

After the airbag was replaced, the horn could no longer be sounded by depressing the ‘6 o’clock’ spoke.

Despite my insistence that the horn could be sounded by depressing the 6 o’clock spoke, the dealer says the horn operation is functioning normally.

My concern is that the airbag assembly has not been fitted correctly, and somehow something is preventing the horn from being sounded by depressing the lower spoke.

Can any W204 owners confirm the lower spoke can be used for the operation of the horn please?
