Airmatic rise time

Checked the book last night. Seems I have airmatic with ADS (Adaptive Dampening)

So the section in the book refering to Sprots I and II do not apply to my car (ABC?)

I did successfully recondition my BMW air pump - they are easy to take apart. I just drilled out the rivets and replaced with self-tapping screws. A motor engineer will be able to re-wire or re-bush it for less than £150 so there is a saving to be made by re-furbishing it yourself.

So how do I get to the pump? Do I have to remove the front bumper?

The Mercedes website says that for the current S Class the standard Airmatic has comfort and sport settings selectable at the touch of a button.

I know your car is the previous model but your handbook will tell you where the buttons for selecting Sport I and II should be.

In the W211 E Class the Airmatic controls are close to the transmission control.

I believe if you have a leak then the car automatically detects it because the vehicle drops below a specified height - you get a warning on the dash. I know this because my business partner had it happen to her car. This is important because the air system maintains a certain level of air in the suspension unit no matter what - thereby giving you air suspension at any ride height. Leak - no air - car down on the blocks. In fact is very obvious - you can see it.

I also know that my car will self level if left locked - particularly if parked on a slope. This takes seconds and I can both hear and see it working.

Finally - do note that Airmatic will only adjust the car height if the engine is running (unless its locked) and the car has actually been moved. If you've just turned it on, then nothing will happen.

I'd suggest that you may have had a one off - call it a warning. Your pump sounds like its not good if its that noisy, and I'd get it replaced.

Spot on. That's exactly what a Stearlership work tech told me. He said you'll get the red warning on the dash.

Yep I intend to. Just got to find a suitable time to get it over to the stealer. This isn't as straight forward as it sounds as I have to take my car to another city. I refuse to use my local one as I cannot stand them!!

hi , i have a airsuspension question. I have a S class the suspension all seems to work well levels out , no pump noises etc , just when i switch the engine off the car release high pressure gas , like buses or lorries. what can be the fault here?

thank you , kind regards K.Khan

When you say high pressure noise like a bus or a lorry, do you mean it's a really loud short sharp burst of air?

Or do you mean it's a soft, gentle, slow release of air? If so, then this is normal.

hi , thanks for the reply, the noise is pretty short and sharp burst of air.

any ideas how to stop this ?

thank you

I have a GL with air suspension. Car often 'farts' as you describe. I think it is the suspension trying to level the car with the surface it's standing on. It's been happening for best part of three years and I think it's normal.
Your car may, of course be different.

Had a Disco 3 prior to this car, it also had air suspension and did exactly the same thing.

As Raymond says, this is normal behaviour - it cannot be prevented. The car is levelling itself after being parked.

I recently had an error on display, icon of a car the an arrow pointing up, then a message saying take to workshop. MB Workshop found the sensor pump thingy was very weak, they changed it and now goes up in 5 seconds flat. I ve got the bill at home, can tell you what the part and cost was.
