Hi all,
As my, new to me, S212 350Cdi has clocked over 150K, I start to have Airmatic issues, where the compressor failed on me, taking the prefuse box as well.... due to two cuts on the rear airmartic lines.
So after fixing the Airmatic lines, replacing the compressor and the relay ( all with genuine Mercedes parts) i am back on the road.
At the same time, I done the engine mounts and replaced the elastomeric cups on the front Airmatic struts as they were really bad...
All of this to bring me to my next questions, I have starting to hear squeaks from the front middle on the car, specially when I turn either left or right.
The noise is easily to replicate, by engaging D, letting the brake off and slowly and frequently braking ( not hard braking, just normal braking) and you hear it squeaks
A local mechanic had a look and he is quite convinced it is the top mounts of the Airmatic and he checked bushed and arms and they all look fine with no play ( I think I need a Merc specialist opinion)
Also, what is the normal life time of Airmatic struts ( especially on the shock as the Airmatic spring looks fine with no leaks) is 150K too much and time for a change ( which I would most likely than sell a kidney to pay for all 4 )?
Does the same shock test for normal shocks apply on the airmatic ( bouncing the car on the side / see nose dive under heavy breaking)?
Many thanks in advance
