Airport car parking for 3 weeks

Hey knighterrant, thanks for the confidence boost. I’m getting more & more comfortable with each reply.
I’m quite often astonished with the knowledge of our members on the forum.

That's what my parents have. They leave cars in French airport carparks for months at a time. Never have an issue.

That would work better than the UK as they get sun in France.

I did the same many years ago and it did work after a fashion but I really needed a bigger solar panel as the rated output only occurred in very strong sunlight. On a cloudy day the output was pathetic. Another factor is that while you are away there are nights as well as days so the panel will only be working half the time. Last but not least panels designated as 12v actually have a capability of 18 Volts. It's an unlikely scenario but should the battery become fully charged the panel voltage could rise to damaging levels. You need to make sure there is some form of voltage regulation to make sure that doesn't happen.

Agreed. I once returned to my car in an airport car park to find the lights had been left on so the battery was flat. The people at the car park had the car running less than 20 minutes later. They want you on your way ASAP so they can get another paying customer into the space.

BTW, I’ve left my 2012 C350 at airport carparks for 3 and more weeks with no problems.
There is great logic in your reasoning and unadulterated buffoonery at the same time !! :banana:If your car will not start they have every right to charge you for parking (breaking down) in their car park ! They would love a car park FULL of immovable cars 24/7/365 = 100% capacity 100% of the time. :D just messin'

Wouldn't something like
https://www.screwfix.com/p/ring-rsp...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CKzMiZ6c7tgCFbch0wodwU4CwA

help... even my solar panels on the house (admittedly a 4Kw array and a wee bit more expensive) do a good job on dull days... if its just to help top it up and maintain a healthy battery (assume u have drive for a few hours before ... just pop this on the roof.and go..
If it gets nicked no harm..but might trickle enough to help...?

That panel from Screwfix at 2.4W is a little better than the one I had at 1.5W. While it's rated at 138mA I'd wager it wouldn't exceed 50mA most of the time but even that would help.

I put mine in the rear window facing South and connected it via a plug and socket to a live feed I found in the boot.

that's massive, look at one of these
