I was out in the C180 (2003) today & took the dog with me, two problems arose, the main one was that I got a b********g for allowing the dog in the car from the wife:rolleyes:

The other one is that I locked the doors whilst popping to the post box & when I returned 2 minutes later the indicators were flashing (alarm set off?) but no noise from the horn.

So what is the problem? The horn, if it uses the same one, works OK on its own.

did you check the battery???
Sorry bit late replying, been away all week. By the battery do you mean the main one or is there a separate battery for the alarm system? The main battery is OK, inasmuch as I have no problems at all, starts on the button.

Its very, very likely that your siren has allowed water into it.. Its a common problem on 203's
I have had 2 go duff..
On my first 203 I removed the siren and threw it away and didnt replace it.. If you go this route then seal the plug on the wires that go into the siren with tape or silicon sealer to keep water out..
The siren is locates under the front passenger side wheel arch at the rear of the wheel arch. You will need to remove the rear section of the wheel arch liner to get at it.. See photo:

I had the same problem (right down to leaving dog in car). When I got back, no central locking.

Checking other threads here I located Fuse 8 in the boot, which was blown, replaced it, that blew immediately so that looks like the alarm siren thing.

Had a quote from a breaker for £72 including delivery (15 quid for a bit of bubble wrap and a stamp seems steep). Are there any issues with fitting second hand?

does w202 suffer the same problems with siren horns as the w203 cars?

where is the siren located on w202?

Yes the 202 suffers from the same problems of the siren as the 203, on a 202 it is fitted behind the front wheel arch liner of the front N/S wheel, on a RHD car that is.

hey buddy
yeah i noticed my turnsignals flashes sometimes w/o siren blasting!!
does it mean my siren with batteries is on it's way out?

on left hand drive cars, siren is it fitted on right side passengers side?

What is the best solution to prevent future damage to siren aftr replacemnt?
Is it a good way to seal the siren somehow maybe in a strong plastic cover bag or seal the connectors with gunk?

thanks

Not sure exactly what side but I personnally think it will be the same side as RHD as you have the trans cooler the other side and that will still be on that side, just and educated guess mind you.
If your car was locked and the indicators were rapidly flashing with no siren then I would say that the siren is the cuplrit, though to confirm this it might be worth while getting the codes read.
Regarding weather proofing, to be honest its not really worth it, its pretty sheltered where it is on the car, mine was in perfect condition including the plug, its just the battery gives up, afterall yours has lasted nearly 14 years before it failled.

Nooooooooooooo maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
My siren still works.
I was wondering about the random flashes??
Is it a sign for mental breakdown for this siren?

The buildt in battery does it get re-charged by the alternator getting new power juice?
Or does it just die one day, and it has to be replaced the whole unit?
Thinking about it still works after 13 years???

Thanks
