Since I got my SL55AMG the Alarm siren did not appear to be working.. indicators would flash, but no siren.
The fault code seemed to confirm the siren was faulty.. today I fitted a new replacement from MB .. quick and easy to do, only took 40mins.
The siren as most will know suffer from water damage or battery leaking and damaging the circuit board and causing other electrical issues.
now working as it should.

MB have updated the part a few times.. and hopefully improved it.
The original part number is A 203 820 38 26
then A 171 820 25 26
The latest part number is A 219 820 32 26
I now have 3 chirps on locking and one on unlocking.

The chirps were a bit of a surprise when I had mine replaced - they're very quiet though, almost apologetic!

I've just got round to fixing mine. I now get 3 loud chirps on unlock, nothing on lock. The alarm is the A 171 820 25 26 version.
Does anyone know if these can be adjusted/disabled, short of completely disconnecting the alarm? I've tried my iCarSoft and there's nothing to change the configuration.

TIA,
Ian.

You have a slightly different siren part number from me Ian..Mine is A219 820 32 26 that might be where the difference lies.. (yours not chirping on lock) I like hearing the gentle chirps.. I think you cannot turn them off (STAR - might though. don't know for sure)

My original siren I removed was the same part number as yours.. this new part number is the latest updated siren.

Thanks for your reply.
I've had a close look at the PCB using my magnifier. Seeing the large number of missing components, I've come to the conclusion that the exact operation depends on links/components fitted or not at the time of manufacture. There's no way I'm investigating further - replacing the batteries was the limit of my soldering skills these days. Next time it's with Star Services of Reading, I'll ask if there is anything they can do, but in the meantime my neighbours will just have to live with it.
A new siren from the dealer represents about 15% of the value of the car, so that's not on!
Thanks,
Ian.

Kudos for replacing your own battery... I might dismantle my old one to see what if anything obvious had gone wrong with it.
The updated siren it appears, to have better waterproofing, it has a thin plastic membrane over the sound outlet.

Nice job John. Personally I hate alarms that sound when being armed/disarmed, but that probably stems back from the days when all and sundry were fitting dodgy (cheap) car alarms that sounded the horn 3/4/5 times and flashed every bloody light on the car just to tell Barry that his Ford Escort was safe (not) from the local scallies. :D
