Alarm System?

Just renewing my insurance cover and Direct Line have asked me to provide evidence of what security and immobilisation system is installed on my C63.

I have never been asked this question before (they are not asking what Tracker), and they require a photocopy of the specification etc. They suggest that this info can be found in the vehicles spec sheet.

I know it is a Thatcham cat 1 system, but cannot find the "proof" they are requiring. My MB dealer is also looking for me but thought I would ask the learned people of this forum to see if they can help.

Ideas??

Strange, they usually accept manufacturers spec. Maybe you just spoke to a numptie, try emailing them asking them to confirm that they do not accept manufacturers spec. You might get a different response :)

The car is 2013........

So just email them the link and advise them that no modifications have been made. That is; it has a TC1 system straight from the factory.

Honestly, I think you've just been unfortunate in getting a numptie.

Yes, take your business elsewhere.

I had this nonsense with Direct Line with my wife's then new R56 MINI Cooper S back in 2007. They insisted that she provide evidence of the security system on the car. They were told it was the factory-fit, standard security system. She was told that she needed to provide an installer's certificate for the system. Despite pointing out how ludicrous a request that was, and escalating the matter, they were adamant that they wouldn't insure without having a copy of the installer's certificate  She took her business to Aviva.

I had similar idiocy from them earlier this year when I wanted to swap my policy from my E350CDI W212 to my E63. They wanted to know the list price of every single item of the factory-fitted Carbon Fibre package. I too took my business to Aviva.

It may well be that both you and I have dealt with numpties, but in my view you're best off just walking and taking your business elsewhere. My reasoning is that if they demonstrate that level of incompetence when trying to take money from me, just think what level of pain I may have to endure if I meet the same level of stupidity / incompetence were I to make a claim.

After persevering, and with the help of the info posted here by you guys, I managed to speak to somebody at Direct Line that was willing to do a little more than spout the company line, and try to help me. He actually did some research, looked on the Thatcham website and then rung me back to confirm that he had found that the Cat 1 was factory fitted and that I need not provide any further info.

So, problem solved for this year but I do tend to agree that this is not a good sign should I have the misfortune of ever wanting to try and get them to part with any money!!

Thanks again for all your help chaps.

Glad you got it sorted. Hope you never have to find out if my fears were well-founded or not!
