Alarm

Hi. I own a 2003 clk (later facelift model) and in the last few days, the factory fitted mercedes alarm has gone a bit array.
After locking it via the key fob button, I walk away and within about 5 seconds, the alarm goes off. I can turn it off by opening the car with key fob or locking it, and then it seems to be ok.
On a few occasions, the indicators have flashed silently and then it must reset, as they stop flashing.
Last thing I want, is for the alarm to randomly go off at 2 or 3 in the morning and wake the neighbourhood.
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and what it could be?
Would it be easy to fix by a garage/non-mercedes specialist or is it better to take any relevant fuses for e alarm out?
There is no immobiliser as far as I know, so that isn't compromised, thankfully.
Any help, ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the siren has packed up, common fault. circa £86 from mb

Hi. The alarm still sounds, so the sirens work, but not sure why It randomly goes off, just seconds after arming it?
I've checked on my incar menus on the dashboard, but it says no malfunction!!!

As above the siren sounds like it is on its way out.

They suffer with water ingress and then corrodes the back up battery giving false alarms

A quick check on a star machine would clarify the issue of what was the last thing to activate the alarm and also if the siren is on its way out

Thanks very much for the advice and information. Very much appreciated.

On My 2006 CLK I removed the nearside wheel arch and It is located on the chassis held on by 2 bolts. Even if you battery is off it will sound as back up battery is fitted. Its the Sirens bleep telling you to renew it.

Mine went off on New years eve so parked my car on the seafront where it is busy but no house around and left it until next day then took it off to stop noise until I got a new unit.

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to disarm the alarm by way of removing any fuses, or will it still go off due to the back up battery? Suffice to say, today, it hasn't gone off at all after alarming it!!! Someone mentioned something about the mercury level??? And parking it on a slant, but I'm not sure about this theory! Sounds like the alarm needs replacing as mines on way out

You can remove fuse 8 in the boot which should be 7.5a but then you will have to hold the key right up to drivers door handle to lock it. Why not replace the siren? Most dealers keep them in stock

Are they expensive to replace or about £86 as someone mentioned above? Worth doing at this price.
