New boy on the site - so please be gentle.
I have a 1998 C240 Estate - Elegance and have suffered over the last few days with the alarm going off, apparently at random. I stopped the nuisance alarms by disabling the movement and interior sensor using the button on the dash (fortunately the light keeps flashing so it still looks as if the alarm is on as normal).
Having looked at posts on here I assumed that the siren unit had given up the ghost.
Today I took the car to a local alarm specialist who has a MB machine and he downloaded the trip-fault readout. It was all internal sensor trips, mainly lhs but also rhs. He also noticed a fresh spider's web in the back of the car. He emailed MB and they replied immediately saying that spiders (and small moths) were a common cause of nuisance alarm-trips and that you had to get rid of them - sometimes even by fumigating the car! Using the software programme he has disabled the interior sensors until I can get rid of the spiders.
Funnily enough, I had the car cleaned at the local hand car wash on Monday and the young woman who does the insides screamed  when she found two spiders in the front.
This all stems from me ferrying garden waste to the recycling centre on Friday and Saturday - you have been warned.

Hi and welcome. The same happened to me with mine - although I didn;t get to take it to the garage ;) The alarm kept going off one evening and at the third tripping I was getting grumpy - went in to have a look and found the little critter just hanging from the roof right in the middle of the car. Sensitive or what  Fortunately it wasn't too big a one or my screaming would have been louder then the alarm :D

Hi, welcome to the forum. Thanks for the very helpful first post.

I often use the car to pop to the tip and also I carry spider infested rubbish around from time to time (they love piles of house bricks for some reason). It never occured to me that these spiders might prefer to take up residence in the back of my car rather than get buried in the local landfill. I will take heed of your advice.

Philip

I don;t know how they get onto mine as I don't carry any rubbish in it let alone garden. I think they might blow in when I'm driving with the roof off.

I get them living in my wing mirrors, its great fun extracting them with my Henry :D . And another irritation with these critters is that they, errrr, do their stuff? on my bodywork as well  . I thought I was getting tar spots in the most unusual places until I spotted one scurry down from my car port roof via his web and leave me small deposit. The same fate awaited him I'm afraid, when I got my Henry out and dusted off the rafters ;) .

Portzy.

I heard that Henry was a big sucker

Going way off topic but, my missus used to be an A&E nurse in late 70's / early 80's and that was a common occurance round these parts.

I can only imagine the shame, especially as she used to occasionally bump into the odd one or two of them in Bradford  .

I also had snails in my interior when I transported some car parts that had been left behind my garage for a while. The little trails were all over the dashboard! :(
What with Portzy playing with his 'Henry'  and Shude claiming his car has snail trail's in the interior, I fear the standard of debate is drifting :devil: Where is Kinky when his humour is required?

Snail trails!! :) I wondered why I see so many tissue boxes in cars. It is obviously to remove those slimy stains?
