why not? The brazillians iirc have been using it for years.

whats involved in getting a car to run on alcohol based fuel? (not the stuff the drag racers use)

Whats the downside?

Why cant I set up a still in my back garden?

Anyone know of a the formula (volume /mass wise) for carbohydrate to alcohol production (i.e. 1Kg of potato = 0.5Kg carbohydrate = 0.2litres of alcohol for example)

discuss.... (if you are as bored as I am today)

same thing (ish) in the UK

My GF came up with an idea...

why not adapt an LPG system to run on alcohol / ethanol?

most LPG systems work like this:-

cut wire from ECU to injector

feed wire to magic box,

out of magic box back to injector (petrol) and injector (gas)

magic box has a switch in it - in posistion 1 it just passes the signal back to the petrol injector. In posistion 2 it passes the signal through an algorithm / multiplier to give the required size of squirt in comparison.

simply ignore the high pressure bit of the LPG system (tank and lines etc) and fit alcohol friendly tubing / injectors. play about with the ratios. install alcohol tank in boot. buy lots of old manky potatos. and a still. drive for (nearly) free... no stinky chip shop smell (like those diesel types.. ;) )
