I have a W211 Estate 2003 with Comand 2.2. It comes with the Tv Tuner and Dvd options.

A couple of things I would like to do......

1) I have a Digital tv tuner that I would like to use through AV leads.

2) Use and MP4 player through the Comand system via AV leads

3) Install rear headrest screens for the kids , running through the comand unit.

It would seem that everyone runs scared of the comand unit:crazy:

I have delved in the boot and it would seem that on the back of the unit in the left hand side there are 6 av inputs/outputs
Now either these are 3 banks of Audio av inputs/outputs or 2 banks of audio/picture inputs/Outputs but as I havent removed the unit I cant see!
Can anyone help!
Thanks in advance
Max

Alfie positively loves the Comand ;) I'm sure he'll be along to hlep out with your question soon enough. :)

If you have anologue TV then you can move one of the 4 antenna leads over to it,, if you do not have a TV fitted the antenna is the killer bit.

Theres an official bolt on digital tuner for your TV tuner, or with some wiring mods it can be changed over to the new digital tuner.

With the bolt on one, you get a remote control to operate the unit (uses rf not infrared as the tiner is in the boot), and you select AUX in on the TV tuner

(BTW, I have a used/spare official bolt on digital tuner)

The inputs are 2 sets of composite + left audio + right audio

Rear headrests slightly more difficult, I dont know enough about those - apart from with the latest digital tuners which have a video and audio output for the rear seat entertainment. The older digital and the analogue tuners run the audio over fibre optics so no way to get at it. The bolt-on tuner has composite and audio outputs which are easy to get at (and thus connect to rear seat screens)

Also, the COMAND has a video output for the official single rear screen for the E class (which fixes on the rear of the centre console) - but thats not 2 rear headrest monitors
There may be a video/audio signal on that which would sort your problem also

Thanks Richard
Having investigated further the inputs are 2x audio/video inputs so that has solved the MP4 player problem.
I could be interested in the Digibox, but as I am new here I cant personal message you!
I have seen this http://www.pegasussl.co.uk/eclass-w211-2000-av-inputs-tv-in-motion-p-12356.html
any thoughts? This may solve the rear screen problem.
Does the digibox that you have have the composite and audio outputs? and does this mean that I could watch the other aux inputs on the rear screens?
Thanks again!
Max

Oh and Thanks TV is that easy to do? what sort of connector do they have on the analogue TV, I'm guessing that being Merc it is nothing standard!

The pegasus seems to be a solution for W211 without TV tuner - (interestingly, i've been looking for such a thing, so thanks !)

If you go to www.mercupgrades.com and use the 'contact us' facility - then i'll have your email address and we can discuss digibox thing.

Yes, it has composite and audio outputs and plugs into either of the TV tuner's aux inputs (one of which is used up by your MP4 player).

I suspect there is audio and composite or RGB output for rear screens already from the back of your COMAND unit, but what I dont know is how it connects to a non MB rear screen

Having looked at the Pegasus again it show that as well as outputs for the Rear screens it does TV in motion, which I would assume means that TV is already installed?
Will call them to find out

I have been told by a Audio specialist that there needs to be a green lead on the backof the comand unit to have outputs for the Rear screens, is there any way of telling if this should be present without removing the unit itself?
It has all the bits DVD,Tv,CD Changer etc, so I would hope that it does!

Sorry TV My COMAND unit has the TV,DVD,Changer in it, I am trying to put screens in but need to know if it has the Green output lead on the back of it.

apologies for hijacking your thread : how did you get on with the Pegasus interface ?? looking to try this one on my ML if suitable ...

Cheers

The Pegasus interface didn't do what I wanted, so I didn't buy it. It would appear that you can't take a feed from the COMAND unit so I have opted for a PS2 being used as a DVD player, an OEM Digi Tuner and My MP4 player.
These now can be shown on the back screens and the COMAND at the same time, but not controlled from the COMAND. The Sound however will go through the COMAND.
This will mean that the two back screens and the COMAND can all be showing different Movies at the same time! (Or the same if that is what is wanted)
If you want an AV In the the Pegasus will do that, I was looking for a COMAND AV Out.
