Hi All,
Need to change front tyres for my Mercedes w211,

Size is 245 40 18

I live in Manchester most of time drive around Manchester,

Which tyres should I get all season tyres or summer tyres?

I have found these for all season
Michelin Tyres / All Season Car / Michelin Cross Climate 2

And for summer

Goodyear Tyres / Car / Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You change all 4 . Not 2.

Crossclimates are brilliant on rwd cars in snow.

Another vote here for cross climate 2. Have them on my W211 and previously W210. I found a good improvement in temps under 7 degrees C and when it was wet (ie not just snow).

How the perform in summer, any issue?
What about noise is normal?

Have just put CrossClimates on the RAV4 , very impressed, good grip in wet and not noisy at all. Expecting they’ll show there real worth when we get into the winter.

Don't mix types.
That's the advice of the tyre manufacturers AND the requirement of insurers.
Check

If the accident is deemed to have been avoidable due to stopping or steering, insurers can avoid a claim.
Some more petty ones, will void your cover deeming it a modification, full stop

But the difference in response in cold or snow being more likely to create over or understeer and a crash should be your main concern

Love a tyre thread.....

Basic question: what are you trying to achieve? What’s your issue with “normal” British summer tyres.

We can assume you’re worried about 100+ mph spirited driving, rain, leaves, Peak District snow, or a slippery slope outside your house, noise etc etc Buy it would be better to hear it from you.

And what kind of annual mileage?

The better grip in CC tyres is mainly achieved with a tyre rubber that stays more pliable at lower temperatures [more silicon content] rather than mere tread pattern alone [ more tread sipes]

I'm not convinced by that , the difference in grip in snow between most all season tyres and cross climates is night and day , regardless of silicone content. I've tried a few over the years . Crossclimates win hands down. Bridgestone all weather Evo were totally rubbish in snow in comparison. Not cheap either.

I fitted Pirelli Cinturato All-Seasons to my C350 a couple of years ago. I immediately noticed that they were quieter than previous Continentals and Goodyears.

I’ve encountered barely any snow with them, but some very cold days. Their performance has been excellent. In summer conditions (wet and dry) I haven’t noticed and difference compared to the other manufacturers’ Summer tyres. As for wear, they seem to be lasting as well as previous Summer tyres.

I certainly wouldn’t mix all-seasons with summer tyres. Those bits of rubber are all that connect you to the road.

No issue with normal british summer tyres,
Currently have all 4 tyres pirelli zero,
Never had a issue, (only front tyres are near to legal limit now)
Rear ones going to change in a few months.
Annual mileage is 4/5k miles a year (using as a second car)

Planning a trip next summer to Norway,
Just wanted something best for my car.

Also wanted a second opinion from you guys mostly people who own W211 in this forum,

And also I have seen many good reviews about cross climate2 tyres online and
goodyear asymmetric 6.

Rear ones still have them a good thread,
Or should I change all 4 of them,
As (fabes) mentioned don't mix tyres.
I mentioned it in post 3 . Hence to change all 4 , your best option is do 2 summers now and another 2 summers when required. Or all 4 now to all seasons. 👍

No Summer issues. Noise is no worse. Also the previous comment about composition is true...the tyre material doesn't go harder or brittle when colder so is able to maintain good grip performance

If you don't have a staggered setup move the rears to the front and the new tyres to the rear if not replacing all 4.

Just last question,
Have you noticed any decrease in MPG?
