All things w168

It's worth checking it's not just play in the spline joint behind the engine. Brilliant tip, take it apart and use silicon sealant on the spline, Stops all clunking. Don't let them tell you it needs a new column. Also lubricate the uv joint u er the steering wheel next to the clutch pedal.
Top mounts always seem to come with half the bearings missing 16 instead of 32. The bearing holders ha e a bearing every other hole. They're much better smoother with all fitted. - 5mm bearings.

Thanks, I am an MB specialist so it will be taken care of.

That's a complete bummer! :(
We're wanting to sell my other half's A210. Not stupid money and not in need of a front end rebuild!
I'd hate for you to be put off them. I assure you they're not all like that. :)
At the end I gave up and bought this Corsa 1.2 16v SXi

Thanks. It is a nice looking car indeed.
There was on ebay this one mercedes a class 1.4 elegance lwb 5 speed manual v low millage 23k with fmbsh | eBay red A140 from 1999 for sale here in London with only 23k miles but because of the age wasn’t ULEZ compliant so I even didn’t go to see it. All the other manuals in 50 miles radius are with some faults; they are either rusty or with noisy engines (tappets, chains) or just not looked after.
This one was probably the silliest of a test drives I’ve ever had I just found a great car on Auto Trader: dead battery, interior like a pigsty, felt trully sorry for the car. Walked away.
This one I just found a great car on Auto Trader: was with good bodywork and the interior but the engine has a massive oil leak. Walked away.
This one I just found a great car on Auto Trader: wasn’t too bad but the instrument cluster needs a service, scratches all over the body, broken interior parts etc. Walked away again.
More distant sellers were honest and saved me a time and money for a trip so I’ve decided to give it up and went for the British one.

I hate to hear of unloved examples of this great underdog of a car. But I guess the reality of it is not everyone sees their car as something to enjoy and cherish, it's a means of getting fon A to B dry a d hopefully warm.

Unfortunately people buy them because they are cheap, then when they go wrong they haven;t the funds to look after them, Well at least thats what i put it down to.

Shame they really are good little cars if you can find one thats been cared for.

Agreed. With the 2 we have, I've invested alot of time (and a bit of money) in getting them right, mine especially.

As some might have seen on the classified section of this forum, one of our A210s will be departing for a new home soon. Its been kind of surreal having 2 such rare cars on our drive for the last year.
Here are some images of a couple of hen's teeth, certainly they must be the only 2 in the Highlands.
This sight is unlikely to happen again anytime soon.

Which one is going?

That's not bad, not a bad mot history either, says its silver mind, that always worries me that it might have been resprayed.
The colour noted on the MOT certificate will just be the testers impression of the colour , a metallic grey could easily be so described. I used to have a Petrol Blue W126 which was described as green not only on MOT certificates but also on the V5

There’s a guy in Fortrose - he’s a Mercedes breaker but also works on them .
I didn't know that! Fortrose is only 10 miles away.
Good shout. :)

Well our trusty A140 has had a busy week.
2 new tyres ...and tracking done on a Hunter geo rig. (It was miles out, hence the tyres, inner shoulders shot!)
Service & MOT all good, and new driver seat height handle.

Next on the list is the fuel gauge is a bit intermittent- has anyone had this? Query if this is most likely to be the tank sensor and is it a tank out job?
Any easy way of checking if it’s instrument cluster or sender?

Oh bugger.
Had 3 of these what a hooligan to drive!
This one though looks a little unloved. The passenger seat looks like it's been peed on!!!
The steering wheel needs refurbished, the front bumper is a different shade of silver and that rust has really taken hold. If it was in spotless condition it would be £1850 not £850.
You've shot a goodn' with yours.! :)

Do you think? I clearly do not have the eye for these things...
although, now you’ve mentioned a ‘steering wheel refurbishment’...I want that! ;) How? Where? How much? :D

There are other who may come up with other suggestions but 'Royal steering Wheels' in Oxford are good. Had a car with one of their refurbished ones on it. Ace!!
