I have spent the day taking the wheels off my recently acquired E350 Bluetec to see how worn the pads are as the car has covered nearly 42,000 miles in its first year.
While the wheels were off I thought I would clean the inside of the rims and remove the old adhesive from where the previous weights had been. The only way I could think of doing it without scratching the wheel was to use a thin piece of plastic as a scraper, but it took a long time and there was still traces of the old adhesive. I tried alloy wheel cleaner and turpentine to shift the offending adhesive but to no affect.
Does anybody have a tried and tested method for removing the old adhesive without damaging the wheel.
