I have had my new w202 for 2 months now and have never driven it in the dark until last night!

I have fitted a nice new mp3 Alpine cd player new from Halfrauds. Noticed that the dimmer/ilumination connection is just a fly lead, no connected to the iso plug. So got an iso pin and added it to the loom..

Last night i pop the face plate on and set of.. noticing that the blue glow from the lcd is so bright that it is causing problems driving. As the rain got harder i had to turn the stereo off to see...

Called alpine this morning and they said that non of the headunits currently made have a proper dimmer( only the 4 selection buttons dimm).. Called Halfords customer service who said that they had had some calls regarding this and would happly swap it for another make of same value or allow me to pay extra for better one...

Now happy Pioneer owner with a dim dash at night... Was very impressed with Halfords customer care desk!

What Alpine Unit was it??

MY CDA 9812RB Faded when you turned lights on.

But why buy from HellFRAUDS?

*EDIT*

Was going to credit Halford customer care but then decided not too. It was only cos I told them I already spoke to VIBE that they did anything for me.

it was a cda-9845rb

mate works at local branch and did me a good price!

we tested several other alpine models and they did not dim either

plus the pioneer sound much more natural and has much more control on the frequency cut off's

My Alpine dims (wire was not in ISO like yours too) but is the top of range standard DIN size bar the units without integral amps.

It almost dims too much it goes very dim indeed.

Mine also has an extra function that yours may of had but you missed - night or day if you press and hold one of the buttons on the top left it blacks out completely until you next press a button.

Hope you are happy with your new unit.

.hmm I'll have to try that!

Yes had the same feature on mine.

must be the normal range of alpine units that does not have the dim function..

Very Very happy with the new one.. Nice to have a proper eq + high and low pass settings on the unit
