Mine: BMW X4 2.0d M-Sport (Red) Hers: BMW X1 2.0d M-Sport (Black) Sorry about that...
Hearing the news, I have always been prone to over-worry, but the predicted power cuts this winter has worried me.

I've bought a generator (Honda) that can supply 2.2kw - so we can plug in a small heater (or even the central heating boiler if things get that bad) and a few table lamps.
I've bought a rechargeable DVD player with a 14 inch screen.
I've collected a few decent LED torches.
We've got a gas hob, so we can eat and brew up - it's only the ignition that relies on mains electric.

Hopefully it won't be needed - but is there anything obvious that I've missed?

Yes...you are. I bet there will be no power cuts. Even the electricity companies said that the chance of that happening was very slight.....Just got blown out of all proportion by the press after it was said....as usual.

DVDs? Hope you have fresh batteries in your cassette tape player and have cleaned the head on your Betamax player too!

Dont worry about the heater , Vald will soon be raising the ambient temp somewhat regardless of what objections Greta may have about Global Warming.

K

PS - As they say in Dads Army - Dont panic - as it is all media driven.

You’re better off investing in a decent home battery array, I know a few people with power walls who live out in the sticks where power cuts after storms are frequent, they now don’t even realise there’s been one until their neighbours tell them.

You've completely forgotten to take into account the Zombie Apocalypse that the Cv19 vaccines inadvertantly give rise to.!
Also, you're going to need some jerry cans full of fuel for the generator (in case there is a breakdown in supply, just when the power stations go off).

Go buy lots of toilet roll and pasta right now
during the pandemic I had to laugh when all the pasta had been bought off the shelves in our local tescos but the jars of pasta sauces etc were still plentiful! just what were people going to eat there cooked pasta with?

Just check the hob doesn't require power to open the gas valve ...

I think this may be an April fool come early, or late.
There is a chance that there MAY be some planned outages of 3 hours. Surely we can all get through a planned 3 hours with some candles and torches having pre heated the house or kept the log burner going?

DVDs? who has DVDs these days :D
Ha ha
I've recently been clearing out my garage & sheds.
I've binned recordable VHS tapes & recordable cassettes. But kept the pre-recorded ones. Don't know why as we no longer have a cassette player or VHS player
We have around 250 DVD's & around 500 CD's which we occasionally use some of them.
Too much live TV & recorded TV to even think about Netflix/Amazon Prime etc, etc

Hi , from memory you will have to isolate your house to make sure you don't electrocute any contractor working on the national grid system outside your house.

I had a suitcase generator and considered doing the same as you.

I had a generator on a boat and the actual output was in the region of 1800 watts.

Please contract a qualified electrician to confirm what I have written.

I’ve got a colleague in Cape Town and they’re always having power outages. He’s taken the initiative of having two mobiles on different networks so he always has comms even if one of the providers is hit by a power outage. But as mentioned above I don’t think we’ll see any outages. One thing worth doing though is make sure your emergency light sources are easily accessible in the dark.
