A big thanks to Niall @ Originial Fabrications who did a fantastic job of gutting the secondly cats on my original down pipes on my C63 :thumb:

The improvement is HUGE! It transforms the car and more to the point its a nicer sound but not too loud but a great improvement!:bannana:

The car seems to rev a lot better though the car has not been mapped yet,
Next step is original downpipes with 200 cel cats and again the secondary cats gutted and of course a Acid remap!!

So wanna do this to mine but either ain't got the time cos I'm working or the wife and kids think of some way to spend my money. I do keep thinking I'll just get it on the ramp get the pipe off and just gut out the boxes from the top and weld back so it's unseen. Then I think what if I don't like the sound.

How did they do yours??

Niaill cut the cats open and gutted them, he said he was amazed how restrictive the 2nd cats were, massive restriction, they look 100% std so no probs with mots

Sound.. just think std but with more of a snarl and howl when giving it the beans: )

If anyone wants to hear mine in Edinburgh or thereabouts your welcome.

Interesting, i take it you mean Originiall Fabrications Limited at Wallyford industrial estate, East Lothian?

You say it's not an MOT problem, but does it affect the emissions any?

I was looking at Mercedes C63 AMG MIlltek Primary sports cats & secondary cat bypass | eBay but that deletes the secondary's so possibly more of an MOT nightmare.

Yes, That's the Niall in question, Great guy and a master at the welding, he is very well know on the Audi rs forums, his work is amazing stuff!!

The mot test is (or has ) changed so that if you have secondary cats fitted they must be there for the test ( but only in body as it were ) it matters not if they have been gutted, And no emissions change, they are there to reduce noise.

So the Milltek is useless unless you have a pet mot tester.

I was gonna go the miltek route but you still have to cut your oem pipe so may as well gut the boxes and save £370 I guess.

So did he cut open a fair amount out of the top of each box so all the cell could be got at and removed or just a smaller opening and smash it all out n give it a shake?? Just contemplating doing mine myself. I'm pretty good with the mig so why not I suppose.

Tbh I cant tell how much cutting involved as the original covers have been put back on, However Niall did say it was a lot more work that he expected,
But in theory yes it just a cut open and smash out the insides and flap wheel the jaggy edges out and weld it up, Btw all the bolts on mine snapped so factor in a new set of bolts and the round barrel nut things, No studs on the manifolds but again factor in new nuts and bolts,

OR talk to Niall he has a std set and he could perhaps do you a exchange his modded ones for yours and cash? Though a deposit I would think would be required until yours arrived in exchange?

For those wanting more noise and do not mind getting a remap, I would think deleting the front catalysts would be much better. Of course It is more work, but I am adamant there are power gains to have by doing this.

I also think the revving more freely feeling people get from a secondary cat delete would be more apparent by deleting the primary.

Looking at the primary cats, they look like a major restriction. Going by experience removing these should have some power gains.

I am looking at doing this to my car, I will measure the power before and after. If there is a considerable power gain I will be looking into making some cat replacement pipes that will enable any garage to install them but also be completely reversible if you wish to go back to stock cats.

This saves the need to go to a exhaust fabrication shop and have something done that is not easily reversible.

It's pretty much the same on all the AMG models the primary cats are very dense, there is a balance though for an everyday road car as they car can feel less responsive unless you floor it. Getting lower cell primary's with a secondary delete can give similar gains without sacrificing drive ability.

Exactly what I am getting made right now!! 200 cell cats in place of the original dustbins and gutted secondary cats, that and a re-map should be the dogs dangles!!

I am also going to be trying Long tube headers with 200 Cell cats, No secondary cats, twin x overs with twin in line silencers into the std rear section, This is in a attempt to get the power without sounding like a nascar entrant!!

We have 2 C63 long tubes on order right now for customers, one will have sports cats with x-pipe the other no cats, H pipe and standard rear boxes.

I have decided to go the Nascar route on my E55. long tube headers no cats, x-pipe and well not much else. Will have to see if I can bear it on the way up to Trax on Sunday.

Oooh that is going to be loud:devil::D

My poor E55 has been left well and truly behind in the power stakes so thought I would go for the loudest one instead:-)
Need to make a decision on it either go all out on a fresh build or sell it and get a Biturbo.

that is going to be mental! i have and x-pipe on me e500 and had the rear silencers taken out...could only put up with it for a week and had some smaller silencers fitted.

I would go about it the other way around, delete primary and fit 200 cell or 100 cell in place of secondary.

That's just the same as the OP is doing, he's effectively removed the secondary’s, by way of having the internals removed, and is having 200 cell primary’s made, thus eliminating any problem of the lambda sensor cable length being correct, or any MOT misery.

The only difference in what you're suggesting is that the primary’s would be further away from the head, meaning extended lambda cables and you would have to replace it all come MOT time.
