Just back from a short trip to the Lake District.
Drove up from Manchester on Friday tea-time - 110 miles - drove a steady 75mph on motorway. 40 miles of Lake District country road driving. Arrived safely in Keswick at 7pm ish.

Was totally astonished to see that the computer displayed 50mpg for the journey ! At one point just approching the motorway turn-off for the Lakes the computer showed 54.3mpg. Incredible and it's an auto !

Despite stopping in Coniston and Windermere and being stuck behind 25mph drivers on the way back got 47.7mpg !

Amazing ! Has anyone ever got more than 54.3mpg on therir computer ?

I have a C220CDI and according to the books is supposed to give the best econony out of the CDI range... To be honest I have taken the car on long runs with both easy and eratic right foot and have been disappointed with the MPG. Apart fromt the mid range torque factor from the CDI my next car is going to be a V8 petrol...

I had a brand new C220 CDI loaner from the stealership, I absolutely roasted it on the daily commute and got 46mpg out of it overall.

It always felt like it needed to be worked to get it anywhere, the engine just felt like it's heart wasn't in it. Might have been happier in a tractor or something... :p

I had a brand new C220CDi Auto estate for 3 days - did 600 miles in it, mainly motorway driving, and it did 30MPG. It almost put me off getting one.
I eventually got a C270CDi Auto Estate. I really only use if for long motorway journeys at stready (if poss) 75-80 and it'll do 46MPG one day and 48MPG the next (don't know why there's a difference - fuel?). My best ever is 49.9, and that was with supermarket fuel. If I do use it for local journeys, even for 20-30 on open roads, it really struggles to get anywhere near 40MPG. Not done any serious tests, but it actually seems more economical at 75 than at any other speed.

Mid range "torque" wise I cannot fault the C220 CDI but the MPG is disappointing - out of th entite W203 range after the C270 CDI thy C220 CDI has the most torque (second best out of the range...)

I don't think these mega mpg's are something that the new 320 or 280 cdi will be able to come close to. :(

Fuzzer, I agree with you in the V6 diesel economy. The book figures are lower and you just know that in the real world, if you've got any amount of town driving, the urban figure is what you can expect overall.

The best I've seen in my 270, at a steady 75 on the motorway, is 50-52

im constantly amased with the mpg.

40 in the town yesterday getting a fairly clear run at it.

I got 65.7 mpg this week on a motorway @ a steady 70 mph

Funnily enough (as I'm in this thread from nearly 11yrs ago and still have the car :) ) I did a long trip in mine a couple of weeks ago and got 61.4MPG on the display. I don't think I've ever had higher than mid 50's before.

I had mine re-mapped a few months ago, not only more power....but better mpg too!

How about this on a heavily congested A12 and M25.......
