My dad has just been on the phone that he has a cracked alloy, and he has been recommended to replace rather than have it welded. He ran over a bit of dry stone wall in the dales last month, and needed a new tyre at the time. He is now losing pressure in the tyre, and a crack has been found.

Here is a pic of the car with the Alloys, it is the 203 Estate, I think they are are either AMG I or AMG III, but not sure. I am not very good on alloys:eek:

They are 245/40 R17, and the handbook says
    8 1/2J x17 H2 ET34.

Can anybody tell me what these Alloys are, as http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/c_class_estate_s203_alloys has different offsets than stated in the handbook.

As he only needs one, can anybody suggest the cheapest way to get a genuine new alloy?

Should he rethink having it repaired ?

    Thanks in advance guys

    They're IIIs matey.

PS I'd replace, and try either ebay or phoning around dealers - you'd be surprised at the amount of old stock kicking around that they'd do a deal on.

As you're in Surrey I'll recommend Tenon Engineering. They can repair cracked wheels - they do it all the time provided it's not a square one!

Thank Stats, very useful, so no reason to not get it repaired, as long as it is done properly then?

It depends on the extent of the damage. Most people would prefer a new wheel but it's common practice to repair cracks at the lip.

check on fleabay, you`ll probably get a replacement for not much more than a repair cost!

    Can anybody confirm the offset?

Should it be ET34 or ET30?
