Anyone know why the CLK63 cabriolet loses the quad exhaust system in the UK? And does anyone know if it is possible to retro-fit an authentic quad exhaust?

Have a look underneath i think its either the fuel tank or the spare wheel well or both that are in the way of having a silencer fitted on both sides.

Yep, huge amount of strenghthening and spare wheel well etc in the way on the Cab. Probably possible to get something custom done through a specialist

Although mine isnt a cab, ive got an OEM quad set up on mine.

Click the picture in my signature for photos.

My garage managed to pipe it up, around the spare wheel well.

The spare wheel well seems to be a lot lower on the cab

Shouldn't matter, still same space on the side. Many yanks have also done this mod.

Karl, you don't have an OEM CLK63 coupe exhaust.

You've got a diesel which comes with a spare wheel and spare wheel well.

The CLK63 coupe does not have a spare wheel or deep wheel well.

It has a shallower well that just holds tools.

Your back box is not an OEM CLK63 box either.

As far as I can see, you just have AMG tailpipes.

Thanks, guys. I'm still confused as the CLK63 doesn't have a spare wheel! Is this just a design ****-up?

Still interested in ways around it. Jealous of M3s...

Stick a photo up of your car from underneath so we can have a look!

You should have a small compressor and some gunk stored in a foam tub that fits In where the reduced in size spare would go . On the cab when you look underneath, this fills up quite a lot of the area where the exhaust would split to go through to the other side, on the coupe this isn't so big as it needs less stiffening to hold the car in shape and therefore there is room to split the pipe on a OEM system. On a non-OEM system they can custom build it although as an exhaust system it may not be as free flowing for the cab as it may have to be a smaller bore and have very tight angles to get around things underneath

Bit harsh dude!

I have a OEM CLK55 back box, and the other two tips/pipe is from a CLK63, I even have the part number on it proving its off a 63. Also, its a 63 part due to the chrome is around the right hand side of it as its meant for the right hand side of the car (hope that makes sense), where as the 55 pipes are for the left hand side only. (you cant use right on left side and visa versa)

The fact its a diesel has nothing to do with it, unless your being an AMG snob ;)

My OEM CLK63 AMG Right hand section with correct tips, and piping:

Have you got a sound clip of your diesel with the quad pipes? Be interesting to hear what it sounds like.

Tony.

I'll try and take a video today, it still sounds like a diesel of course, but with a bit of bass :)

OP - here's a thought for you.

There was a CLK55 at a GTG recently that had a quad pipe conversion, except that the right hand side set weren't connected to anything (do you remember Rash)?

It looked ok from the rear, but the sound came from the left side only, and the right hand side was shiny and new whereas the left was sooted through normal driving. This was obvious from the rear.

A bit odd and not recommended.

If you can find a way - ensure you get both sides connected.

I bet it looked a bit silly on cold winter mornings!:fail
Why would you do that to a quality car anyway?

Tony.

EMP Performance (ask for Eldin) do this work.

Yes you want both side connected otherwise when you get the cold mornings you get vapor on one side only.

When I had EMP do my C240 estate. They fitted a "1 in 2 out" silencer and a pipe from that to the O/S rear. That pipe runs around the rear axles and spare wheel well. They also did the bumper cuts and fitted some heat shield over the new pipe.

I have a C55 estate. The difference is the spare wheel well on the 55 is made for skinny uninflated spare allowing room for the rear boxes on either side.

Would love to see some vids! Thinking about getting a quad system for my 420 cdi but no one on the forum would help me! That's why I stay over MBO more now! :(

cheers boys

No one can help if no one else has any information regarding the work needed! If you carry out the conversion you could post up a how to then we would all be a bit wiser and you would be helping other 420 owners who may want to do the same job.
And we are a better class of ignoramus than those on MBO:thumb:

I think we are the same level! :bannana:

We are all a community and as Tony says we do try and help but I must confess in not seeing your request for assistance - sometimes people miss them and you have to ask a few times
