I've read the bikers threads, but not sure if there are any Moto GP fans on this forum ??

If there are, you may be aware that AMG have signed a deal with the Ducati Moto GP team, primarily as a sponsor but with the 'proviso' of further collaboration!!

The latest rumour is that AMG (i.e. Mercedes) may even buy Ducati at some point. Look out for a return of Desmodromic's in the SLS :D

Seems odd, but when Rossi joined Ducati it was expected that Fiat would go with him, they're not sponsoring Yamaha anymore. Looks like MB beat them to it. Considering the rivalry in F1 between MB and (Fiat owned) Ferrari, I definately think this is more than just a sponsorship tie-up.

Does this mean I'll have to sell my Aprilia or the AMG :dk:

Yes, I am a MotoGP fan - heard about this last month.

Apparently they're going to have Ducatis at official MB trackdays and vise-versa. Not exactly sure how that'd work, but that would be excellent for me (being also a biker), I've never ridden a Ducati before, but was seriously considering a Hypermotard abouot 18 months ago

I'm a Moto GP fan too. Just seems bizzare given that Ferrari and Ducati are so close. They just had there yearly Ferrari and Ducati gathering, the teams and drivers/riders!

Ducati are whores. It wasn't that long ago that they were in cahoots with Harley-Davidson...

Oldest job in the world! Don't knock it :D

I think you'll find it was MV Augusta that Harley purchased, and then sold again when they hit the financial mire..

AMG have been clever, as the second thing you will see from Rossi's on board camara after THE DOCTOR is a AMG badge :D

No better way to advertise :bannana:

Wrong! that was MV Augusta!

Being a Ducati biker, I did not take much to the American owners Texas Pacific, but I have to say their financial boost certainly has improved the quality of the bikes. Though you can see the pencil pushers had their say on some of the earlier bikes being produced to cost. Then they sold out in '06/'07 returning to 100% Italian again.

Owners still have to fork out more for other improvements and Ducati marketed as such is the need, that IMHO the original factory bikes should of had the performance parts in the first place, aka Ducati Performance.

Ducati and AMG, can't wait for the next WDW!!!!

Ducati definitely considered Harley-Davidson as a partner for a while back in 2007..... Read the article supplied as a link in my post above.

I remember it as I have only ever bought one or the other.... (horses for courses).

Not a bad merger, I enjoy riding a bike too, would I buy a Ducati?, no I doubt I would, I think thier really amazing looking bikes but I don't like V Twins, plus the rumours of reliability and long waits for parts on Italian bikes put me off.I will most likely go for a BMW S1000RR next, or a Fireblade in the rare event that Honda actually do something with it and update it.
