I am not familiar with the grade 316? (for exhausts)

Typical grades of SS for exhausts are (cheapest first)

409
439/441
304 hot and cold ends
309 typicaly hot ends only.

Most aftermarket companies that make silencers from 304 offer lifetime warranties. I dont believe you are going to want anything better than 304.... should give you 5 years minimum life on the granny run, and 10+ years if you use your car regular on a decent run.

I got a quote of £180 or something for a custom made stainless AMG style (twin oval exit) exhaust backbox for my c230k. They said it was only about £15 to fit it too. That was from a company called Motion Styling.

The "accessory" ///AMG exhaust backbox for 1997+ w202 is £531.32 +VAT! £624.30 including VAT. It's only £574.58 including VAT for the c43 ///AMG exhaust backbox, although it will require a small mod to your pipework (£25ish). The accessory part will be silent I would expect, whereas the c43 box makes a lovely rumbling noise when ticking over, is fairly quiet at cruising speeds and sounds amazing when you drop the hammer.

The bad news is... I just found out the parts guy who used to give me the discounts has left

so why didn't they tell u you could get the accessory for your car in the first place? how crap - no wonder they sacked the parts guy!

Just rang up the MB Great west, the Accesory back box and the Amg back box are exactly the same just the pipe behind the box is different - that's all - I'm ging to the dealers tonight as I know a parts guy who is 'on-the-ball'

Is your accessory exhaust box the same as the c36 ///AMG box? If so howcome it's quiet, surely it'd rumble a bit more because it's more free flowing or bigger bore or something - the c36 engine is twice the size and power of yours so I reckon it'd produce twice the exhaust gas. Just wondering

when I had my Exhuast put on it made Alot of difference - Only I could notice it, the tune of the engine was different in that it now sings deeper, the exhuast is louder than stock - but not much.

The same as your Exhuast I didn't notice any difference when I heard your back box - only you knew as U know your own car.

Alps Genuine C36 didnt make noise, The other guy in my area with the silver C43 doesnt make that much noise either - It's a Mercedes not a Ford escort with a big bore....

Look at M3's and stuff.. they dont sound sound noisey....

How loud the exhuast sounds is dependant mainly on the engine, dont forget that mine is only a 1.8 and yours is a 2.3.

I have a twin oval AMG exhaust, it came from a CLK, but looks identical to the twin square (C36) box i have pipework wise, i imagine it would fit a W202 fine.

Anyone interested?

and the price is...................
