As I had reached a certain milestone in my life today, my surprise birthday present from my dearly beloved was an hours AMG experience at MB world.

I had no idea this morning I would be driving an E63 AMG estate, flat out and sideways at 5pm this afternoon.

Fantastic.

Here is a picture to whet the appetite

i got the same gift... I ma yet to use.. what choice of cars do you get?

I was not offered a choice, but as both the kids came along for the ride (before the little one felt sick:eek:), it cut down the options somewhat.

There was an SL63, and a C63 going round at the same time as me. I am sure if you desperately want to drive a particular model, you should ask up front.

The 211 estate version though considering it is huge, was amazingly nimble.:)

Good for you and happy birthday. My bro and I did the same thing in a CLS 63AMG - part of the deal when we brought my CLS. Absolutely great time. And I don't know about you - but the car amazed me - especially the braking demonstrations. Did you hit the cones ?!?

Yep brakes were amazing, and no I did not hit the cones, not sure if it was my great driving, or the instructor telling me to brake with enough time:D

I got the AMG Driving Experience as a present for a major birthday also. I'm booked in for the 13 June but apparently there is an event on that day so they've cancelled it. However, given that I've booked flights and accomodation and can't change the dates, they've offered a passenger ride in an SLR on public roads then a drive in an AMG again on public roads. Don't think I'll be going flat out sideways though!

At the price they charge, I would not be happy to go on public roads, even with the chance to go in an SLR. You will really not be able to drive the car to the limits in the way that you can on the track.

Difficult decision though:eek:

I'm wondering what constitutes a major birthday and whether I'm too late/early?

:DMine was 40:D

Not sure if its the start of a mid life crisis or not:eek:

Anyway you only need a full driving license to take part, and £170:crazy:

To their credit, MB World have been very good. My wife originally booked 2 tickets for the Double 12 event on 13 June for my birthday. This got cancelled but she was never told and did not receive a refund on her credit card. She spoke to MBW customer service who offered the AMG Driving Experience for free as a goodwill gesture. I'll be happy with whatever as it is costing us nothing!

I drove the CLS63 too. The Gold coloured one. Cones thing was easy although I have to admit I was staggered at the lateness of the braking. Skid pan was great fun too. There were two cars on it at the same time which made for great fun.

They had a SL65 there earlier in the year, which was an absolute weapon!!
