Apologies if this has already been discussed and probably many times before….
New to the forum.
This is the 2nd AMG I have owned, the first one a ML63 AMG which I had for 4 years, and now the current GLE63 S AMG. I previously owned 4 different model BMW’s and thought at the time I would never change. Now I love the GLE63 and after the former ML63 would never (highly unlikely) go back to a BMW!! The BMW always gave a one type of drive experience, whereas the Mercedes AMG gives you a choice, high speed thrilling experience, or comfort suspension for a comfortable ‘grandad‘ type drive at a much slower pace. I use to drive around 12,000 miles a year, but ever since buying a motorhome 6 years ago do far less mileage, which is now only 7,000 miles PA. So with only 27,000 miles on the clock have decided to keep the car.
My question here, is what is your opinion on finding an alternative non Mercedes independent garage for future servicing on the car, and if I did how May this affect the future value at the point I decide to sell? I have already used one independent garage for brake replacements and a few other repairs. The one garage I used was more than happy for me to provide the brAmes of my choice, which were fitted, knowing in confidence that the best possible ones were fitted, AND half the price of a main dealer. The garage incidentally, gave me a choice of brakes available, and even said that there was a new accLunt half price deal that he could not match. My next service (4th B service) is due very soon, and have been quoted by Mercedes dealers at just under £1,000!, Ouch. I live near Burton-on-Trent so if any of you gents or ladies know of garage you can recommend near to me would be much appreciated, as another garage to consider as an alternative to the one I’ve used so far, if they are to busy, or have difficulty in resolving very complex issues.
On another note, I currently am having problems with the various sensors on the car, brake assist inoperative, and lane assist inoperative etc etc. A local authorised garage, have looked at the car a few times now and ordered various sensors before stripping the car down to locate the fault. I have asked that although out of the warranty period, I consider that Mercedes, should take into consideration that this is a similar fault to last time with it the warranty period, and hence should offer a gesture of good will and replace and repair at their cost. After 2 months the parts are still on order, and I have been told by the garage, that waiting timescale is typical at present and have even had parts outstanding for 6 months! I also had a very similar issue within the warranty period, and after 2 visits and all the diagnostics done and sensors replaced rectified the problem, hence why I am now asking for Mercedes to cover the cost. Will be interested to hear if any of you have experienced the same issues with sensors too. If the faults are finally rectified great, BUT I am inclined to consider, that if at any time in the future, the same faults reoccur, I will consider remapping these out of the system. We don’t really need them do we? In over 4 years of ownership the sensors have probably been inoperative for 6 months of that period. I could still drive the car and didn’t really need them - opinion?
