Hello,
I have a 2016 GTS that is currently stock, and I am looking at potentially installing the Renntech EVM to fully control the valves. I noticed that the valves are not supposed to be open on a cold start and even when the button is enabled, they don't open until the idle has dropped. I am wondering if the Renntech EVM allows you to keep the valves open at all times, even before the car is started, so that a cold start can be done with the valves open? A few times my valves have got 'stuck' open on a cold start and it sounds excellent, so I would like to be able to do that all the time.

Welcome to MBClub.

One to ask Renntech, to make sure you don’t buy something you wouldn’t have otherwise bought.

Have you tried starting in Race or Sports Plus modes?

Welcome to the forum.
I installed an ExValve EVM to my car. It keeps the valves open 100% permanently if you want. The module remembers the last setting when the car is started again allowing you to have them open 100% for a cold start.

As a control measure against the valve’s potentially sticking I function them a couple of times each time I use the car, before setting them to fully open again.

IMO this is how they should have come out of the factory. Not too loud and in your face, but for me it is an idea volume/tone.

I wonder if there’s coding mod that could be done to remember the last position of the valves.

Interestingly on the Porsche I had, they are open at start and once vacuum builds, then closes

Thanks for the reply, I'm assuming this is the EVM you have fitted to yours? MERCEDES-BENZ AMG GT/GTS/GTC/GTR EXHAUST VALVE CONTROLLER BY ASR - ExValve

If so that looks a lot cheaper than the Renntech one and does what I want so cheers for that.

Yep, that’s the one I bought and installed.
There was quite a lot of talk about these over the pond on MBWorld. Without doing a search (and my memory is now below par), if I remember it correctly, quite a few people were saying the Renntech EVM was the same unit as the ASR version, at an inflated price.
ExValve, who I bought mine from claim that they designed the unit for ASR.
As ExValve is a British company, I thought it made sense to buy it and have local(ish) support should I need it.
Quite a decent saving too.

If you have the EVM set to fully open, yes the exhaust button is redundant.
As I’m sure you are aware, you can also deactivate the EVM and you are back to original, using the factory exhaust button.

Thanks, was not aware if you deactivate EVM, the mode change button works as normal.

Seems madness to me that the car doesn't simply doesnt remeber the last setting or let you set open or close before starting the engine....

The car does let you select the position of the valves before staring the engine. This is done with factory exhaust button or drive mode selector, but as far as I know the valves don’t open 100%. At least when I open the valves (100%) using the EVM, cold start is a lot more interesting.

The time I feel the EVM is most beneficial is when tootling around or at tick over in comfort or sport mode, having the valves open 100% is a much better tone (as in the video I posted).

Had the ExValve EVM installed a couple of weeks ago and works exactly as I want it to, the valves are now open when car is started.
Good news. Enjoy 👍🏻
