The manufacturer gives the code that dictates what the car is registered as. Each version has it's own code.

They could be imports, where the importer cannot give the correct code.

Hmmm, so Mercedes is incapable? We also had a S500L which was listed as a SL500.

I guess the SL numbers need boosting somehow!

Also worth noting that the 75 you quoted is a combination of both coupes and convertibles.
