What you have is a set of OZ split rims produced for AMG by OZ racing.

The nuts can be bought on eBay.....if you're going to the time and expense of replacing them I suggest you buy stainless steel ones, don't skimp on the nuts either...

Unlike BBS split rims I'm reasonably sure you can use a high quality (Snap-on or similar) 8mm socket to remove the studs, but do check this...it may be duff advice.

These are three piece wheels, but the centre section is not actually sandwiched between the two rims, the front and rear rim are sealed together, then the centre is bolted on the back.

This has the advantage of being able to unbolt the centre without having to break the airtight seal of the front and rear rim for a repolish. However, I would probably split them right down and get he whole job done properly and a new seal put on.

A word of warning, these wheels have a tendancy to develop hairline cracks by the main 5 bolt holes, so it's important that these are never fitted to the car with an air gun, always tighten by hand.

Also they always left the factory with the air valve fitted directly opposite the AMG logo on the wheel face, not next to it, or at a slightly skewed angle.

Oh and get some decent chrome or stainless valves for the rebuild...black rubber look awful after you've gone to the expense of polishign the rim.

Chrome bolts:- HERE

A wider variety here:-

Just out of curiosity, I sold a set of these to a chap in Ireland last year for his W124 coupe....this would happen to be you would it?

Cheers for that............:thumb:

No the wheels came on the car when i bought it.
There looking for 500 euro over here to do them which i think is not bad.
Whats the prices like in the u.k for a refurb???

Neil

€500 seems sensible to me. Make sure they know what they're doing with them, split rims are a whole different ballgame to regular alloys. Does the €500 include new bolts or not? It's cheap if it does.

The last set I had done were BBS RS's with a full split, Stainless Steel Bolts and nuts, powder coated centre, polished rims that was £800.

I was asking that and he kept saying he will need to see the wheels etc.
Il have to drop down with a wheel to show him.

Do you have the name of the place in the uk were you got yours done???
Did your wheels have any kerb damage to them???
Can they repair the kerb damage and then polish over it???

Neil

Cheers Mudster.....:thumb:

That looks more promising than the shop over here.

Many Thanks

Neil

I wouldnt touch the wheels myself let them do all the work.

Whoever is refurbshing the wheels, ask to see the centre pieces once they have been shot-blasted and before they are painted...that way you can inspect for the cracks that appear on the 3-piece OZ Racing rims. You will usually only see the cracks properly once centre pieces have been shot blasted and the powder coat can hide the cracks.

I wouldn't take anyone's word for it that there were none - best see for yourself. Only a professional wheel company is going to tell you about the cracks if they are there as they have legal liability.

The oz rims require 10 point, 8mm and 10mm sockets...not found on the market. 12-point is the common one and is what BBS use.

So the faces come away without breaking the seal?

So i could change the bolts with just the OZ tools?

Yes you can remove the face without seperating the inner and outer lip. Make sure the tyres are deflated else the pressue will open the seal.

Saves me a lot of hassle then!
Will take the wheel off, deflate the tyre, and one by one change each bolt.

I was looking a my wheels this evening and one of them is cracked were the wheel stud is:mad:.

Can this be welded when getting refurbed.............?????

Yes they can be repaired... A decent wheel refurbisher will be able to sort it.

Although the safest thing is to source another.

il see what they say when i send the wheels away:doh:.
