    Guys

After Sunday’s meet one of the things that was mentioned to me was "When are we doing the next event for the AMG boys". Well something I have been thinking about doing for a while and listening to Benilux, Palmball and my Audi pal Nigel the ring seems to be a calling as these guys have done this many a time now and are addicted....I say seems to be as I want to gauge in the interest from you guys first as to who would be up for a couple of day trip to the Nurburgring in Spring 2012.

Now before anyone says it, my intention is not to take our pride and joys onto the worlds most notourious track and put them up against Zonda's and stripped out old bangers....Well only if you wanted to, but to maybe venture into finding out about a club trip whereby you can hire cars at the track for the day or as many laps as you want using specialised stripped out VW's, Suzuki Swifts and alike, and before anyone puts these down, according to my sources these cars are very fast and made for the job in hand. That why your pride and joy are in tact, and you keep your brakes and tyres in good health. I was thinking that we could all travel in convoy to Nordschleife stay over night, the ring the following day and home that evening which we could do on a weekend or maybe a Sunday and home the Monday.... Anyway lets see what interest we get!

There are hotels around the track and prices range accordingly which can be very reasonable. If I am honest the total price including petrol, hotel, food track time could cost as much as £1000 or as least as £500 depending on car hire at the ring and what you intentions are for the trip. I am not sure of any of the figures yet but once I know how much interest there will be from this thread I'll start making some calls and finding out some details.

    Thanks
    Benjy

Don't get the whole idea about hire cars, why?!!
AMG's were made for that and that's where they'd feel home,is pointless buying a fast car otherwise

    Hi Guys

The only reason I mention the hire cars is for anyone who doesn't want to take there AMGs on the track as it is very hard on your brakes and tyres. I have been told is that beware of these issues when taking your pride and joy out on the ring as well as boys with old bangers that like to drop oil and bits of their car over the track... personally I want to use my own car and will be doing at least a lap or two but the punishment men took at the two Goodwood track days, a £300 cost of a hire car instead of £3000 for new discs and tyres sounds like a plan

But hey everyone to their own and I will find out all details of cars so everyone has a choice.

    Cheers

Generally interested but a bit too early for me to commit so I will play it by ear if that's OK. I too would be tracking the ML if I go (maybe with Sabine Schmitz on board, whaddaya think?)

I would be interested but I would want to take the AMG, it cost me 3 grand and its a donor car so if I crash it ill just try to swipe the back end of it!

Oh no....the wifes not going to be happy

Ive never really been interested in taking my car to the ring as its not a circuit you can get the hang of in a morning but if this goes ahead, and I hope it does, im 100% commited to making the trip over there. I never knew you could hire cars to take out either and after having a look at the website the insurance excess seems a bit steep so im up for the weekend and if its dry I may possibly do 1 gentle lap round in mine just to experiance it and while im there i'll have a lap in a ring taxi and an early morning run on an autobahn to see if I can get mine flat out.

I was speaking to Kristian who a few of you have met he has done the ring a few times, to get an idea of costs, petrol, ferry, accomadation, will all set you back about £1000, if you want a proper "ring car", a race prepped Megan, will cost EURO800 for 4 hours, this will be insured but will have an insurance excess of EURO35K for the megan, and EURO5K for third partys car., obviously a new set of brakes if you use your own car!

just some food for thought... im still in, and Kristian (M3 in primer) has said he would be interested too!
