AMG warranties

Morning all,

Quick question, am I right in thinking that if you buy a used AMG from Mercedes the warranty is 2 years? Also, does anyone know what the approximate cost of buying 2 years would be for a used E63S from Mercedes if I were to buy it separately as an extension?

I'm sure I read somewhere they were something like £2k per year?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

Probably depends on the dealership, I've seen some that only offer the 2yr warranty if you buy on finance. As to separate warranty, it was over £1700/yr for my SL and that wasn't even an AMG

Oh I'll definitely be buying on finance....

It was 2 years warranty when I bought mine,
no finance.

The extension was about half the price of a new policy if you were to take out cover once expired I believe.

I think they usually include key cover, minor mishap cover etc with approved used sales :thumb:

Also approved used cars have to meet certain criteria - eg service requirements, tyre condition etc but as always check this before purchase and have anything necessary addressed first.

Can’t fault the buying experience or aftercare in my own opinion. Dealers do vary though :)

My used C43 came with 2 yr warranty. I bought it cash + trade-in, from MB Blackbun.
I understand all AMG cars have two years vs one year for non-AMG, from MB dealerships in the UK.

Recently, I had a leaking OSR shock replaced under the warranty; £600 part!!
Ps If they had not replaced it under warranty, I was going to upgrade all 4 corners with aftermarket suspension.

I ask because I'm currently searching for an E63S. But, I've given up trying to get a drive (or even a look round) a suitable car from a dealership (for reasons outlined in another thread), which means its down to shopping around the independents. I'm considering using the lack of a manufacturer backed warranty as a bargaining chip when buying a similarly priced car.

Not sure it it'll work but I may as well ask.....

I was looking a while ago, but also gave up as my experience was like yours Seemed impossible with dealerships but no idea why!
Good luck...

Two dealerships, 3 sales people. Last call yesterday from Nottingham by a sales person who treated my now 2 week old enquiry like a new one - couldn't organise a test drive without some form of 'comittment' from me. All I've been trying to so for the last fortnight is commit! Can't throw money at them - so now I've stopped trying :)

Was 2 years when I bought mine too, however had to followup again after a year as the dealership (York) had put it through incorrectly for only 1 year. All was sorted though. All in all can't fault the service received from York Mercedes.

My nearest MB dealership is part of the Sytner group, 2 year warranty with pre-owned AMGs. I've seen a Sytner BMW dealership with an AMG for sale but only with a 6 month warranty. I think that seems to be standard practice, not just with Sytner.

As far as I'm aware any approved used AMG comes with a 2 year warranty, albeit it's not as comprehensive as the original manufacturer's warranty.

Can you book a test drive online?

I get they have a lot of chancers particularly with the AMG stuff and there are probably some people who are just wanting a test drive but still…

I wonder what commitment the salesman wanted? I suppose you could ‘commit’ and back out.

It’s not like your obligated to buy given cooling off etc but it seems a bit absurd for what are fairly available cars (i.e not Porsche RS type stuff) - it’s all a bit unnecessary IMO.

Also warranty i believe you can get a quote from MB’s website if you search and enter an E63S reg it will give you pricing.

That’s how I made the original enquiries - one each to Audi, Mercedes and BMW.

Sytner BMW were shockingly bad, a phone call and promise of another to confirm the date, never heard from them again.

Mercedes as I’ve said faired slightly better, but only because I spoke to more people 😂

Audi came out top, called me back within 60 mins of the enquiry, arranged a drive in a 2 year old RS5 within the same week. No pressure, salesman was spot on.

With all those enquiries I explained current situation in detail, so they knew I wasn’t a tyre kicker.

Not really sure what else I could have done, except maybe walk in with a carrier bag full of used twenties 🤪

Had much more luck with a couple of Indy dealers, looking at a 19 plate car on Sunday and an 18 plate car a couple of weeks later.

How come you're moving on from the C63 out of interest...?

Coming to the end of my PCP, the car is actually worth something and so I figured I’d use the equity as a deposit and treat myself to an upgrade 😀

It’s a tough decision as I love the C63 but moving to another AMG means it wont be the wrench than it might have been, going to something totally different (and unknown!).

Fun times ahead, enjoy 😀

I'll definitely miss my AMG when it goes!

I agree. I’ve bought 2 from the dealers and they both come with 2yrs

Used Approved AMG models have received two year warranties for many years. A year or two ago there were several posts on MBClub which related to cars being sold with just 12 months warranty although it didn't seem to last long.

If you want to put a Mercedes extended warranty on to an AMG then it’s best to do it whilst it’s still under the manufacturers warranty but you can do it any time (within the age/mileage limit). Best to get a quote as the cost varies between models.

One thing to note is that the price steps up significantly at 60,000 miles. In fact it double when I did it if I remember right, so bear than in mind if you are buying a car close to that mileage as it might be cost prohibitive to extend again.

For the warranty, just google mb warranty and put the reg in to get a quote for the warranty.

It's usually more expensive the first year if it's not currently under MB warranty and cheaper subsequent years as long as there's no gap in the warranty

When I bought my C63, and still checking out other Approved Used come with 2 years warranty irrespective of cash or finance. But mine is expiring next year so this thread is a good lookout for me. For extending an existing warranty, the dealership will send you a mail reminder for it after which you can get a quote. I hope to get mine some time next month so will definitely update this post.

Point to note is that even their Approved Used Warranty doesn't cover everything so make sure to read the paperwork fully.
