Amount of engine oil required for a 1.8 automatic

Just had car serviced. I always by the oil and dont like having the garage stuff put into the car. Put in 5L and the garage said i need to put put another 0.5L and then another guy told me to put 1L.
Checked the system and the electronics on the dashboard says level is ok.
Does anyone know the correct amount of oil to put into the engine?

If your engine is the M271 1.8L, then the total oil capacity is 5.5L.

I would not put in more that 5L though, both because there is always some oil left in the system, and because you should not fill oil 'to the brim'.

Let the engine warm up to operating temperature. Once fully hot, switch off and wait 5 minutes while parked on level ground.

Check the dipstick. It should be around 2mm BELOW the Max mark.

If it isn't, then you can top-up a bit more, but be careful not to overfill.

It's 5.5 litres but I find that not all of the old oil gets drained so mine just takes a little over 5 litres.
