That might be because the new A-Class did not go on sale in the UK until February 2005 (5 months after it was launched in LHD) so it hasn't been on our roads for that long.

Midlife facelift is due in about April next year.

I have had a few of the new A class as service loan cars and I have to say I was generally impressed. The 180CDI is a super little car, just a pity we have to pay so much more money for better ride quality and to turn the overall volume in cabin down by a few db.
I use earplugs on the bike, maybe that is the cost effective way forward!
I could see speaking on the hands free being a bit of an issue....
