I had the much less pretty successor to the Calibra Turbo 4x4 - the Astra Coupe Turbo - in beautiful Europa blue.

As a child I used to stare at the Irmscher cars at the official importer - Irmscher UK - showroom, especially Mantas.

The Astra Coupe was a close as I could get to the Manta and Calibra when I was in a position to buy one.

I bought the car from that same Irmacher showroom but I really wasn’t keen on the Irmscher body kit for the Astra.

So I bought the grille and a few other minor Irmscher parts. No engine tuning options were available by then either.

Great car.

I love the Lotus Carlton too, but I’d take the Senator based on rarity and being a car for the cognoscenti.

One over in Ireland I never knew about

I had a lodger in the late 90’s that had one but it got stolen off my driveway. Lodger then bought a 2.5 V6 Vectra which was a bit of a beast.

My dad also had one short term that got chopped in for a Rover 600.

I used to get thrown the keys to them all the time when I was 17-19, as a fair number of senior management had them, so if stuff needed moving I did it in a 620Ti or occasionally 800 Vitesse.

Loved them both and bought a Rover myself as a result.

I bought Mrs D a 12 month old Omega 2.5 CD when she was around 24 years old. She seemed to think it harmed her street cred.

What a car, absolutely loved it, and should have kept it. Accelerating hard looked, sounded and felt like a scene from Police, Camera, Action.
