This is your cuppa isn't it?

different but a bit pricey

That's right up my street, but at 30 large I think I'd prefer to have my own built and know it's been done to a decent standard!

Needs more subtle wheels, the idea of a Q car is it's actually a Q car.....

How hard is it to plumb and wire a 5litre engine into the estates?

Thats what i was thinking!

Happen to have a set of the standard 500 wheels in the garage...

this is the other 500e he's selling

that really does have low mileage.

That is nice, these are really growing on me, but a 10,000 km I'd be afraid to put miles (or KM) on it.

A nice one sensibly price with 90K - 100K miles on it would be ideal.

I really like the idea of a V8 W124 Estate though, there's something about the solidity of these cars that lends itself to the big motor.

I guess a nice 320 or 280 TE and a rear ended 500E would be the perfect project......

Why a 500E ? can't you just use any 5 litre of that vintage ?

SL ? S ?

The wheels don't look quite right on the saloon 500E, and the engine bay is way too tired for 10,500km!

Simply the fact you would have all the metal laid out in front of you required for the engine bay fabrication.

Of course and 500 engine of that vintage would do but the advantage of having the same bodyshell with factory fabrication there would be tremendous.

Agree the offset of the front wheels looks wrong.

I've got a feeling that although the 500E/E500 used the same basic 5.0 engine as other MBs of that era (S, SL, CL) there were some slight modifications needed - might have been a different sump IIRC.

The ignition system was different. The 500E used the Bosch Jet-tronic system.

From talking to Talbir today I'd say the best way forward would be an early SL 500 engine with the early injection, a 500E crossmember, firewall & engine mounts
